Alt Ardoch House has a wonderful elevated position with spectacular mountain and coastal views. This traditional Arran house is new to the holiday market and has the best of both - old on the outside and modern on the inside, enhanced by inspirational artwork throughout. With all the comforts of home and an accessible location, it will be popular with both couples and families.

There is also an attached holiday cottage for up to 4 guests which is completely separate but may be ideal for 2 families or larger groups to book together (

The house has a spacious living room with a cosy gas stove, deep carpets, comfy sofas and glorious sea views; a fully equipped kitchen with dining area and more lovely views; and a separate utility room and a cloakroom to the rear of the house. On the first floor, there are two double bedrooms and a single bedroom, all with sea views. The bedrooms are softly furnished with fine linen, high quality duvets and pillows to ensure a peaceful sleep. There is also a family bathroom with bath and shower, wc and wash-hand basin.

Outside, there are terraces to the front and rear gardens with seating; and a large lawn with fruit trees and herbaceous borders set within a backdrop of pine forests. The rear terrace is secluded and faces south, a perfect place to relax.

There is a footpath a short distance from the house via Cuddy Dook and the public tennis courts to the beach and the village amenities of Lamlash. If you are returning after dark though you will need a torch!

There are some good quality restaurants nearby and we recommend the Glenisle Hotel, the Drift Inn, the Lamlash Bay Hotel in Lamlash and Coast Bistro in Whiting Bay - all within easy reach by car or taxi. The local stores and a farm shop are within 2 miles of the house, where you can stock up on everyday essentials. The main village of Brodick offers a larger supermarket and there are excellent leisure and dining amenities.

The island has some award-winning places to visit including Brodick Castle, Country park and Gardens, Cladach Visitor Centre with the Island Cheese Shop, Creelers and Arran Aromatics, the Isle of Arran Distillery; and many craft and unique places to shop. Arran Art Gallery in Whiting Bay offers an inspiring range of original artwork, limited edition prints, ceramics and glassware together with a pretty courtyard garden.

If you are looking for an active break, there are numerous footpaths and cycle routes around the island, with circular walks to waterfalls and ancient sites for all the family, challenging ridge walks and climbs for the more experienced and easy coastal routes. You can try a new activity with experienced local guides, from sea kayaking to paragliding or improve your skills on a mountain bike session. And for the golfers - there are seven courses around the island open to non-members. The nearest are Lamlash and Whiting Bay, open all year round and both offer friendly facilities.

The house is available for weekly bookings and short breaks out of the main holiday periods or if there is late availability. The standard changeover day is Saturday.

The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

Arran is a beautiful island off the west coast of Scotland with stunning mountain and coastal scenery. There are rugged granite mountain peaks in the north, green rolling hills of the south, pretty villages and stunning ever changing coastal views around every corner.

In contrast to the most of Scotland, Arran is blessed with a mild maritime climate due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream, making it an ideal destination for year round breaks. However, it is also renowned for changeable weather and you may experience four seasons in one day! You are advised to bring comfortable, weatherproof gear and wear layers that you can take off when the sun shines.

Arran is easily accessible from the Scottish mainland, less than an hour from Glasgow, Glasgow and Prestwick International Airports. When you board the ferry, there is a feeling of leaving all the worries behind, as you set off on your Arran adventure.

There is also the option to travel to Kintyre from the north of the island on a short ferry crossing to explore the Argyll or island hop to Islay, Mull and beyond.

Isle of Arran

With a stunning natural environment, the island is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with outstanding wildlife, flora, fauna, geology, archaeology and history. There are high level mountain walks for the more experienced, miles of forestry trails and the Arran Coastal Way, a continuous 100k route. You can also follow circular paths to discover ancient sites, including the Standing Stones at Machrie Moor and King's Caves near Blackwaterfoot.

Brodick Castle, Gardens & Country Park offers a programme of guided walks in the summer months and there are a number of woodland trails, including The Duchess Bathing Pools and a sculpture trail in Merkland Wood created by a renowned local artist, Tim Pomeroy.

Other activities available and places to visit include:

• 4* hotel leisure facilities open to non-residents include a swimming pool with sauna, steam and foot spa; sports hall, gym and studio, spa and beauty treatments and a children's play barn

• Seven golf courses and an automated golf range

• Pony trekking at Sannox and Shiskine

• Adventure activities - sea kayaking, gorge walking, paragliding, climbing and abseiling, mountain biking

• Boat trips from Lamlash pier including sea kayaking, powerboating and a ferry service to the Holy Isle

• The Isle of Arran Distillery, Lochranza (4* visitor attraction)

• Old Byre Showroom and Cafe Thyme, Machrie

• Arran Art Gallery with an inspiring range of original artwork, limited edition prints, ceramics and glassware together with a pretty courtyard garden

A car is advised for convenience and to travel to other parts of the island. However, there is a regular bus service connecting the villages and an open top bus for scenic trips in the main season.

"A gorgeous home, spacious and stylish, with stunning views"

Found this after several hours of searching online for a last min short break on Arran. Photos looked lovely, price not much more than a smaller, much less attractive property we'd seen. We were completely delighted-it's even better than the photos and description. Homely and beautiful! We didn't want to leave!
