Newly-built in a classical style, Mallard Cottage combines all modern comforts with traditional character and elegance. Peacefully situated in the heart of the glen, in the grounds of the oldest "mansion house" on the island, the house is within easy reach of the beach, the shops, the swimming pool, the castle, the museum, the restaurants and the golf course in Brodick, but feels wonderfully set apart in what everyone agrees is a particularly beautiful spot. Guests have free access to the lovely gardens of the main house and to "chickenopolis" with its fascinating collection of birds, but each cottage also has its own private patio and garden for tea or cocktails on the terrace. Graded 5 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board, and winner of a gold medal for design, the cottage is of a particularly high standard and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday, honeymoon or complete escape from the pressures of city life. Fully centrally-heated and with a bathroom en suite for each bedroom, as well as a fully equipped kitchen, the cottage is a wonderful home-from-home and a super place to come back to after a day walking the hills. There's even a jacuzzi for a long relaxing soak, before, perhaps, booking into the award-winning restaurant just a short strolll away.

The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

"Scotland in Miniature" is the favourite phrase to describe the Isle of Arran, because it contains everything type of scenery Scotland has to offer in an island which is just 60 miles around. Geologically, it is hebridean, but it is the most accessible of all, being just two hours from Glasgow - one hour of which is a "cruise" on the large, comfortable and stabilised ferry. There are seven golf courses on the island, a prehistoric stone circle, the wonderful Brodick Castle, a distillery, brewery, cheesemaker, chocolatier, Arran Aromatics and Arran Provisions, adventure trips, endless walks, a mountain to climb and deer to stalk, as well as a wide range of restaurants to spoil yourself in. And yet, wherever you go, you are often apt to feel you have the place to yourself, because it is never crowded. It is,. however, "infectious," because, once caught by its charms, you will never completely escape, being drawn back again and again, as so many generations have been and continue to be. And you won't be the first to start thinking, "Wouldn't it be lovely to live here....."

Isle of Arran

The whole of the island is yours, and you will start to wind down on the cruise across in the ferry. Once here, you will never find yourself rushing. When the time comes to leave, you'll wish you had longer to stay, but will go home completely relaxed
