The Costa de la Luz / Huelva Province region
Islantilla is a town under the joint responsibility of Lepe and Isla Christina, in Huelva (Andalucia) on the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light). This area is a unique and beautiful area of Spain known for its wonderful beaches. It is situated very close to the border with Portugal in an area also known as the Spanish Algarve.
Other interesting places to visit are the towns of Lepe, El Rompido, El Portil and of course Seville. A "must try" is the Iberico Ham which is considered to be among the best in Spain. The area has many golf courses and multiple leisure establishments including movie theatres, night bars, water park etc.
Islantilla area
The long golden sands of Islantilla beach which has been awarded the EU Blue Flag and the protected natural surroundings are quite different from other touristic areas of the Spanish Coast. The recent urban development has been made taking special care of the eco-system of dunes and pine trees. The golden sandy beach caters for all and has access via wooden ramps. It also has disabled persons facilities, parking and showers. Islantilla becomes a hive of activity with the local people selling their wares in open markets in the true Spanish style. You can choose to watch them in one of the many superb restaurants and bars in the area.
Within a 15 minute drive is the historical border town of Ayamonte with it's cobbled streets, local markets and a diverse range of shops and interesting places to eat. There is a modern marina and even the opportunity to take a short boat trip over to Portugal.
How to get there
Islantilla is located in a tranquil and unspoilt area of the Costa de la Luz on the western part of the Andalucian coastline facing the Atlantic Ocean. It is connected by road to Ayamonte in the province of Huelva. Islantilla can be reached using the International Airports at Faro and Seville
