The Kvarner/Lika region

The one bedroom apartment is situated in Punat on the 'golden island' of Krk in Croatia, which is also northern most island of the Adriatic. It lies in the close proximity to Rijeka, in the Kvarner bay and forms a part of county called Primorje-Gorski Kotar. During summer and autumn months the island is visited by many, yet due to its natural diversity it offers both busy coastal/beach life and relaxing environments. The island is connected to the mainland by a ~1.5 km long bridge, making it easily accessible. Rijeka's airport is located on the island as well. The town of Punat lies in the Punat bay, refereed to as Puntarska draga by the locals, and hosts one of the largest marines Adriatic has to offer. Small in size, the town is ideal for relaxing vacation surrounded by the stunning coastal features. The bay itself is unusually deep, and berried in it lies the town with a tinny island Kosljun located in the middle of the bay. The island houses a small Franciscan monastery of exquisite beauty, reachable solely by a boat which sails per request and need. The town is also famous for its olive gardens and high quality olive oils and excellent fresh fish!

Island of Krk

Needles to say, during summer months Punat's many beaches offer something for everyone. From family friendly beaches with all amnesties and plenty of parks (and ice cream stands!) to more isolated beaches suitable for those yearning for some peace and quiet. The highlights of your visit could include sampling the excellent and extensive choice of fresh fish. Punat port is populated with charming boats of different shapes and sizes bringing wide range of Adriatic fish that will even take you on one of the fishing trips letting you enjoy the fresh catch prepared on the boat. Other popular activities include hiking, horse riding and range of sea sports (a water skiing centre with a wakeboard ski lift is available).

During the spring and early summer the temperatures are warm but not too hot. Similar holds true for the late summer period and autumn. The summer heat eases off, but the temperatures remain warm. Punat and surrounding area become ideal for running, biking and hiking during those off season periods. Dedicated bike routes span the island, both road routes and more challenging routes along the coast, offering great scenery. October hosts the 35km bike race (Win the black pearl) with a family friendly route as well as the main route. The sea water is warm enough for swimming from early June (or maybe even a bit earlier, depending on which part of the world you are from! :-)) and remains suitable for swimming usually till mid October.
