Home description
The apartment is on the ground floor (single storey) of a quiet residential complex, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, with a view of the sea and the picturesque old hilltop village of Capoliveri. It is away from traffic and idea for couples or families.
The living room has a sofa-bed, television, dining table and chairs. French doors lead to the patio which is furnished with table and chairs for guests to have meals "al fresco" and deck-chairs to sit back and relax in the sun. The kitchen area has fitted cupboards and worktop, hob with cooker hood, refrigerator with freezer compartment, kettle and toaster. In addition, an iron, ironing board and hair-dryer are also provided for guests.
The main bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe and french doors leading to the service patio. The small bedroom has bunk beds. Lots of storage space. The bathroom is fully equipped with a shower cubicle, WC, bidet, bathroom cabinet and wash basin with mirror. Although simply furnished, the apartment is well-equipped and has everything you may need. And... if it hasn't, just ask the owner, who lives nearby and will do her best to help.
Outside facilities include shared barbecue and car-parking space. The beautiful sandy beach of Lido di Capoliveri (within walking distance of the apartment - 350m), has several bars, restaurants and pizza bars where you can take a rest from sunbathing, swimming and scuba-diving and enjoy a meal of tasty sea-food, genuine lasagne, a superb pizza or a glass of Elba's white wine.
The beach also caters for a variety of water-sports. A mini-market at one end of the beach will supply all your day-to-day needs (anything from postcards to beach-balls ) and if you want some evening entertainment, try taking a stroll in one of the harbour towns, enjoying a delicious Italian ice-cream whilst looking at the beautiful yachts moored in the harbour. And if you do decide to come without a car, you can always count on a taxi to bring you home.

The Tuscany region
The Isle of Elba is the largest of the seven islands in the Tuscan archipelago (most of which now enjoys National Park protected status) and only 10 km from Piombino harbour on the mainland. It is renowned for being the greenest island in the Med, spanning an area of 223 sq. km., with spectacular mountains alternating with woodland areas, hills covered with typical Mediterranean vegetation sloping down to crystal clear sea and a few vineyards which produce the famous “Elba Bianco” wine.
In short, a paradise not only for nature lovers and sun-bathers, but also for horse riders, mountain bikers and hikers who can explore the mountain trails and even climb the island’s highest peak (Mt. Capanne, 1018 metres). For the less energetic a cable car takes you to the top in the summer months.
There are many places to visit on the island, including the Summer and Winter residences of Napoleon Bonaparte, where he was exiled in 1814, the remains of an ancient Roman villa and traces left by the Etruscans, Romans and, Normans and Saracen invasions in various parts of the island. Elba is also renowned for its variety of minerals and a visit to the old mines at Capoliveri, Rio Marina and Porto Azzurro is recommended.
Many visitors like to combine a holiday on the Island with a few days sightseeing in Florence (only about two hours from Piombino), Pisa, Siena, Lucca or the Garfagnana.
Island of Elba / Capoliveri area
The quaint little hilltop town of Capoliveri (only 4 km from the apartment) is a hive of activity in the summer months, particularly in the evening, and well worth a visit. It is perhaps one of the most spectacular and characteristic spots on the whole island, offering views over the rest of the island, Corsica, the islands of Montecristo and Pianosa and the mainland.
And if you want to visit any of these islands, why not take advantage of the many boat trips which will take you there and back in just one day, some of which offer fantastic views of underwater flora and fauna in glass-bottom boats.
And, if you are feeling more adventurous, try an hour or so at the Diving Centre on Capoliveri beach which organizes short "expeditions"
On 14 July, Capoliveri celebrates the “Festa dell’Innamorata”, one of the Island’s most fascinating legends which recounts the sad story of two young lovers. In the first decade of May, the “Festa del Cavatore” (Miner’s Festival) is held in honour of the island’s ancient mining traditions, while on the last Sunday in September, the annual Wine Festival is held, when the town’s “rioni” (districts) re-propose the historical setting for old peasant traditions and challenge each other in creating outstanding choreographies, all centred around the main harvest theme. A prize is awarded to the best reconstruction.
Porto Azzurro, only 3 km away, is a delightful old fishing village, that is now a harbour and fashionable resort, where there is plenty of nightlife.
Car advisable.
How to get there
British Airways, Alitalia, Ryanair, Easyjet and many others all operate regular flights to Pisa and Rome Airports from the UK and various other European countries.
From the airport it is possible to hire a car from one of the major hire-car companies (www.europcar.com – www.hertz.com – www. avis.com – www.maggiore.com)
From Pisa or Rome. it is just a straight drive along the motorway and "superstrada" (dual carriageway) to Piombino harbour.
Alternatively, it is possible to take a train from Pisa or Rome to Piombino Marittima harbour. There is a frequent and very efficient ferry service (as many as 50 crossings a day in the high season) to the island ports of Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro. The crossing takes approx. 1 hour.
If you prefer to hire a car on your arrival on the island, the owner will be pleased to provide further information on request.
It is also possible to from Pisa airport to Marina di Campo airport on the island.
