Enquire nowThe Dalmatia region
Island Brac, the largest island of the central Dalmatian group of islands, the third largest among the Adriatic islands. It is separated from the mainland by the Brac Channel, from the island of Solta by the so-called Splitska Vrata (Split Gate) and from the Island of Hvar by the Hvar Channel.
The highest peak of the island, Vidova Gora (Vitus' Mount) (778 m), is also the highest peak of all Croatian islands. The limestone part of the coast is rocky and steep, while the rest is rather low and sandy. Composed primarily of limestone and dolomite, the quarries of the island of Brac have been a source of stone for building decorative stonework for centuries. The old Romans have known its quality and used this very stone to build cities, amphitheaters, temples, palaces and graves all over Dalmatia.
There are no surface water streams on the island. Permanent water sources are provided only around Bol. Higher parts of the island (above 400 m) are at some places covered with black and Aleppo pine forests; larger or smaller forests of Aleppo pine are found around all coastal towns and villages; dominant are dense evergreen underbrush (macchia) and rocky ground.
The largest places are Pucisca and Supetar. Major farming products are olive oil, wine and fruit (sour cherries and almonds); chief occupations include also livestock breeding and fishing. Fish canneries are located in Postira and Milna. Major quarries, where the famous Brac building stone is excavated, are located near Pucisca, Selca, Postira, Splitska and Donji Humac (this kind of building stone was used in the construction of the White House in Washington and the Palace of Diocletian in Split). A road network has been constructed throughout the island; ferry lines Split - Supetar, Makarska - Sumartin; ship lines with Supetar and Bol. Airport 'Brac' (for smaller aircraft) is located above Bol.
Rich cultural and historic heritage that dates back to pre-historic times, unique gastronomy, beautiful beaches and bays, crystal blue sea, high quality accommodation in private facilities and the hospitality of the local people are the guarantees of a holiday you will always remember.
The Island of Brac / Bol area
The world famous tourist town Bol is situated on the southern part of the sunniest of the Adriatic islands, the island of Brac. It is the oldest town on the island and also one of the most desirable destinations on the Adriatic.
Wide sandy and pebble beaches extending over ten kilometers, as well as numerous freshwater springs have made Bol the primary tourist oasis on the island of Brac.
On the west and the east part of Bol there are numerous beaches of which the most popular one is the beach of white gravel - Zlatni rat (“Golden Bay”), which spreads in a thong shape to the south in the longitude of 634m. Zlatni rat is a paradise for surfers, kite surfers and all those who enjoy the water sports.
The coronet of Bol hills, the Illyrian fortress Kostilo (660 m) and the Vidova gora (778 m) - the highest top of the Adriatic islands are rising above Bol.
Bol is only 15 km away from the international tourist and sports airport "Brac", and it is connected with the fast lines to the coast, and with a ferry- line from Split- Supetar.
Bol fascinates with crystal clear water, wonderful nature and the virgin beauty of the stony island houses that Croatian poet Tin Ujevic sung about. This little town has kept its Mediterranean spirit.
A rich history of Bol which dates back to ancient times is evidenced by numerous archaeological findings and monuments.
Bol offers you supreme luxury accommodation in hotels, apartments and villas. Beside a great number of little restaurants by the sea, discotheques and clubs, this place offers relaxing moments followed by traditional Dalmatian song so called Dalmatian “ klapa” (a capella songs), concerts of prominent singers, theatre, and art exhibitions of popular Croatian artists who have found their moments of inspiration in the silence of Bol. As the biggest tourist centre on the island, Bol offers its guests twenty playing-grounds, a big tennis stadium with 1820 sitting places that every year gathers the world tennis elite as guests of the famous tennis tournament of the Adriatic Riviera and WTA Croatian Bol Ladies Open.
Bol is ideal for the lovers of football, volleyball, basketball, biking, the extreme sports (trekking, free climbing...) and the water sports like diving and windsurfing. In the aquatorium of Bol you will find a true paradise for surfers, always attractive because of the extraordinary good winds (Maestral) that blow in Brac-Hvar sea channel.
