The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
Ancient Lycia in south western Turkey runs from Ekincik to Antalya in a semi-circle of some of the most mountainous and dramatic landscape anywhere in Turkey. The Taurus Mountains rise to over ten thousand feet and the highest peaks are snow covered right into early summer. It's magnificent scenery with it's lakes, woods and forests, it's stunning coast line and superb ruins of two dozen cities make Lycia a place to explore and enjoy.
Lycia's coast line runs for several hundred kilometres, borders the Mediterranean and attracts yachtsmen to the crystal clear waters and near perfect climate. The many islands, coves and beautiful beaches such as Patara, one of the top ten in the world ( Sunday Times 2005) and Kaputus, within 15 minutes of Kalkan and Olu Deniz, 45 minutes away, add to Lycia 's unique historic and scenic appeal to visitors.
At a latitude of 36 degrees, Kalkan is one of the most southerly points of Turkey's Mediterranean coast and enjoys sunny, warm days most of the year. Spring and autumn are popular times to visit with temperatures into the 70's not unusual right through to December.
The UNESCO world heritage site of Xanthos was Lycia's capital city for much of it's history and the ruins of the principal cities of Tlos, Myra, Pinara and Partara, all close to Kalkan attract visitors from all over the world to look at the ancient ruins dating back over 2000 years. The British museum also has an extensive collection of Lycian artefacts.v
Kalkan Mountain Villa Angelica lies in the heart of Turkey's finest region of outstanding natural beauty midway between the quiet, charming villages and local shops of Islamlar and Üzümlü and surrounded on all sides by the landscapes of Turkey’s enchanting Lycian coastline. Set amoung fields and forests of cedar and pine, olive groves and walnut trees, the air is filled with the fragrances of bouganvillia, jasmine, jacaranda, lemon and thyme. Small waterfalls, springs and mountain streams provide constant fresh water for the nearby village of Islamlar, giving natural irrigation and feeding the trout pools that supply the friendly local restaurants.
The villa is close to parts of the famous Lycian Way and in In early and late season, the cooler temperatures make the area ideal for those who enjoy walking or exploring. In the heat of the summer, the fresh mountain air makes the heat a little more bearable.
The area is renowned for its trout restaurants. These simple constructions provide wonderful views down the valley, menus are simple and absolutely fresh, usually consisting of salads, goats cheese, a few local meze, delicious fresh trout or chicken, followed by fresh fruit. The combination of the natural tastes – completely free of chemicals – the sound of the mountain streams and the magnificent scenery just cannot fail to impress.

It is possible to arrange a taxi one way or both, ensuring that you will never feel too remote in your peaceful haven. Patara Beach (voted one of the best in the world by Times Online 2005) a 12 km Stretch of sandy beach is around 35 minutes drive and can be seen from the villa.

Strict building codes ensure the towns historic preservation, and the many fine restaurants contribute to the special atmosphere that brings back visitors time and time again. Kalkan has many special qualities, but without doubt it is the people of the resort who make the town extra special. The people of Kalkan happily welcome you, and you may at first be surprised by the universal friendliness within the town. It is absolutely genuine. Warm Turkish hospitality and friendliness is the basis of life here and the people of Kalkan sincerely enjoy getting to know their guests.

This was mg first villa break and I was a little worried- but from the start the point of contacts in the uk were very re- assuring. When we got there the 2 people assigned to look after the villa also gave a great service. More importantly the views were amazing. We opted to get taxis into kalkan and found the food to be expensive. Really well equipped villa with state of the art facilities. Loved it!!!

"Gorgeous villa with stunning view"
We stayed here in April and the weather was already getting warm. The villa is huge and oozes luxury. It is situated on a hill in a forested area about a 15 minute drive from Kalkan and feels a couple of degrees cooler. Its four bedrooms are laid out on three levels. Each of the bedrooms is large and has a large ensuite. The open plan kitchen has designer utensils including an Alessi lemon squeezer! Every room is south facing and the view of Patara beach is simply stunning. We especially liked terrace and pool area. Wi-Fi is available and connection was good throughout the house. The local restaurants are reasonably priced and seem to cater to the tourist crowd and several of them offer free pickup to and from the Villa. This villa is brand-new and it is really hard to find any fault with it. A great place to get away from it all for a few days. Would definitely love to stay here again.

"Only one word "Amazing""
I'm one of those people who never writes reviews unless something is exceptional. This certainly is the case at villa Lavender, it lived up to its description and certainly did not disappoint in any shape or form. The location is amazing, a peaceful and spectacular setting but near enough to dip in and out of kalkan when it took our fancy. The villa had everything and more than we could hope for, it is uber modern and spacious, it's seems to blend seamlessly into a magnificent view. Little touches such as champagne glasses and an ice bucket just made it unlike your average villa. The furnishings throughout are stylish and very tasteful and the outside areas are private and large enough for our family of eight. We hired a car for our stay, this was necessary but it meant we were able to explore all the small villages near by and sample the many great restaurants, Kalkan itself is very quaint, lively but not loud! restaurants and small boutiques in abundance, we certainly never struggled to fill our time, we only wish we could have stayed longer. We will be back again next year and have already booked Villa Lavender. Casher family Devon July 2012
