Isla Plana apartment
About the home
A 2-bedroomed apartment finished to a high specification, on a gated development with 2 swimming pools and just a 5-minute walk to the nearest beach. Mojon Hills, as the name suggests, is built on hills rising away from the coast. So, from our apartment is is just a 5-minute downhill walk to the sea - beware, many of the other apartments in Mojon Hills are much further up the hill, and so a taxing walk back in the heat! Our apartment is right at the front of the development and is the closest to the coast, so you look at the sea rather than over the development.
The apartment has a large outdoor living area with sea and mountain views, and is equipped with everything required for a relaxing holiday at any time of year, including an efficient air-conditioning/heating unit. The apartment is suitable for children, and a cot and high chair can be provided if required. No pets or smoking allowed.
It is just a few mintues walk to more beaches, and the small, friendly village of Isla Plana, with small, local shops and good-value restaurants. Enjoy a 3-course lunch-time 'menu del dia', with wine for just 9 euros! The larger resort of Puerto de Mazarron, with supermarkets, many more shops and restaurants, a weekly market all year round, and a new marina and esplanade is just a short drive away.Take a lovely coastal walk (1-hour) around to the small fishing village of L'Azohia, also a dive-school base, and enjoy the views from 'Antipodas' - one of our favourite bar/restaurants - take the bus one if you prefer. A holiday here can be as active or as relaxed as you like.
The Costa Calida has a very special micro-climate, making it a year-round sunshine destination, and the 13km coastline of the Bay of Mazarron has many, varied beaches and crystal clear sea, hence the diving schools in the area.
Isla Plana is also an ideal base from which to explore the region, with the re-vamped, historic port of Cartagena just a 20-minute scenic drive away. There are lovely walks along this last unspoiled stretch of Spanish coastline and also inland in the Sierra Espuna National Park, if you can tear yourself away from the glorious sea vistas! If golf is your thing, the nearest course is just 15-minutes drive inland. There are many local festivals throughout the year for a flavour of 'real Spain'. This is not a UK package destination, but an area where many Spanish people choose to spend their summer holiday in self-catering accommodation. Consequently it is a very affordable destination for eating and drinking out, museum entry fees etc.

Further details indoors:
We have stayed in many types of holiday accommodation and have equipped our special place in a way that we think you will appreciate. You will find everything you need for your holiday - down to a garlic press and kitchen scales, including a small hairdryer, travel plugs etc. We have chosen items for comfortable self-catering and easy-living - for example we have spent money on good mattresses, kitchen equipment and simple, functional furniture which gives a spacious, stylish feel without being over-cluttered. But we have bought easily replaceable breakable items, as the last thing you want to worry about on holiday is breaking a crystal glass, for example! We provide bed lined and towels, but please bring your own beach towels.
We also feel that it is a waste of money and a hassle when you have to dash out immediately to buy washing-up liquid, toilet paper, tea bags, sugar etc., so we have left such basic items ready for you. Our system is that you use what's there and simply replace anything that looks as though it will run out for the next people. Of course, this relies on everyone appreciating the system and maintaining it, so far it has worked perfectly - we hope you find it a useful arrangement too!
Further details outdoors:
As well as the large (35 sq metre) balcony which, being on a corner, catches any cooling breezes in the summer, there is an outside paved area and a gravelled private 'garden' area to the side of the property. This may feature a few Mediterranean 'weeds', depending on what time of year you are there, but you are unlikely to want to swap the view from the balcony to sit there anyway. However, it does give a spacious feel to the approach. There are a few shallow steps up to the private rear entrance as you approach, but although the apartment is on the first floor the entrance is level and private due to the block being built into the natural slope of the land.
There are two swimming pools, set in their own gardens, for the exclusive use of residents, and a further small communal garden area. As the development is fenced and gated it is quite safe for children.
Our apartment is on the corner of a block that is closest to the sea on the Mojon Hills development - many others are a long walk down the hill - and back up again! We love wandering down, along the beach, and on to the bakery to pick up pastries to enjoy with coffee just another 5 minutes's walk by the sea.
Further details
Cots and high chairs available on request. No pets allowed. Please do not smoke inside the property.

During the peak season there are more markets, for example a small Friday one in Isla Plana itself, as well as extra activities organised by the Town Hall for visitors. However, there is usually something on offer whenever you are staying, as there are many fiestas throughout the year.
These will often involve a craft market on the esplanade in Puerto de Mazarron, and colourful dancing displays. So, do check the local Tourist Office as soon as you can after arrival to make sure you don’t miss anything! Puerto de Mazarron has a busy Sunday market (0900-1400) every Sunday, an attraction for both tourists and locals, except when this falls on a ‘fiesta’ day.
The Isla Plana / Mojon Hills Resort area
The Mojon Hills Resort is a quality development in several self-contained phases, with our apartment being in the phase closest to the sea. The attractive apartment blocks were built to reflect the Moorish influence in the area and fitted to a high specification, with very large private outdoor areas and communal gardens and pools. There are two pools within our gated area, for the exclusive use of residents. All but a handful of the apartments are owned by Spanish families. It is just 5-minutes downhill walk to the nearest, beautiful shingle beach, with the village and a sandy beach just another short walk along the coast.
Isla Plana is set in beautiful Mazarron Bay – (the Golfo de Mazarron), which some call the ‘St Ives of Spain’. With some of the finest beaches in the country, it is a secret the Spanish have managed to keep for themselves, so it has thankfully avoided the mass package-holiday market. The area is a very popular holiday destination for Spanish families, many of whom own holiday homes here, and in July and August the population swells accordingly, but there are so many beaches to choose from that there is room for everyone! It has a different, more lively ambience at this time. For the rest of the year it has the perfect blend of all the facilities you need, and a tranquil environment in which to enjoy them along with the local Spanish people and other discerning folk who have discovered Spain’s best-kept secret!
The lovely, natural coastline, backed by mountains, has its own special micro-climate, providing over 320 days of sunshine a year, with an average temperature of 20ºC, offering ideal conditions for beach and sea lovers, or for those who enjoy long walks along the seashore or just ambling along the espalanades, or admiring the boats moored in the marina at Puerto de Mazarron from the waterfront bars, restaurants and ice-cream parlours.
The area offers a wide range of activities – including superb coastal walking and swimming along a protected, undeveloped strip of the coastline, sailing, sea kayaking, para-gliding and water-skiing, as well as private boat trips in the bay. Due to the exceptional water quality and location, there are also many diving clubs, offering courses at all levels together with diving expeditions to explore local wrecks, spectacular underwater caves and grottos.
The nearest (par 72) golf course, part of the Sensol Spa Resort at Camposol is just a 15-minute drive inland and there are many others within an hour’s drive.
Entertainment and Fiestas in and around Puerto Mazarrón.

Great place in well kept modern complex. The appartment is spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. The outdoor space is usable even in the heat of high summer. Mazzaron is a great small town, catering primarily for Spanish tourists... it's a very different vibe from the costa blanca or costa brava. The best sandy beach is here, but it does get busy during spanish hols. Isla Plana is more of a village than a town. Really nice with a particularly appealing cafe/bar on the promenade. If you like walking, then Isla Plana to La Azohia is about an hour each way. There are great inland walks, especially up over the white cliffs behind Isla Plana. |

A very hot month but the apartment was very well equipped and had beautiful views surrounding it . Isla Plana is very Spanish and a lovely place to totally chill. The area has enough shops to cater for your needs and there is a lot of very interesting places to visit no more than a car ride away. The beaches are varied so are interesting as some are sandy or pebbled and rocky to cater for all the family. A nice to place to fish if your into sea fishing and enough night life to enjoy but still relax. |
