The Normandy / Calvados region
In the heart of the Calvados region of Normandy, the area is famous for its Cider and Calvados Brandy. Its a very rural area with many small and winding roads crossing the area. The regional cities of Caen and St Lo provide the facilities you would expect for larger towns but the area is dominated by small towns and villages.
Life is slower here, where lunch is almost always taken between 12 and 3 and the pace of life is less hurried. On the coast there are many wonderful fishing villages worth a visit as well as spectacular beaches.
Isigny sur Mer / Lison area
Normandy became the focal point of the invasion of Europe in WWII and this location provides excellent access to the beaches ( Omaha and Utah and great for kids) , numerous museums, war cemeteries and historical landmarks associated with those events. The town of Isigny sur Mer is renown for its Cheese and butter and a tour of the factory is well worth the time.
The Saturday market in St Lo is worth a trip, its amazing what is sold! A short drive south past St Lo, and you have the spectacular scenary of the Bocage.
How to get there
Only 50 minutes drive from the ports of Cherbourg and Caen Le Petit Haut Chene lies just out side the village of Lison on the D11 ( 9kM from Isigny Sur Mer).
