The Lazio region
Ischia di Castro is located in an area rich in vineyard and olive-groves ,at 390 metres above sea-level. In the surrounding territories, numerous finds, which testify that the area was already inhabited in the prehistory, have been discovered. There akso some Etruscan remains .
Ischia di Castro is an ideal base from which to explore Rome,Viterbo, Umbria and Toscany.
Nearby there is Bolsena lake with its beaches at Capodimonte and Marta, many archaeological sites in the area and thermal baths at Viterbo.
Nearby (30 min drive) there is the Tyrrenian sea cosst with many beaches from Pescia Romana to Argentario.
Ischia di Castro is also an ideal base from which to explore the Tyrrenian cost ( 20 min drive) with its famous beaches at Pescia Romana and Fiorentina, Capalbio, Ansedonia and Argentario.
Ischia di Castro
Ischia di Castro was ruled by the Romans and later,at the end of the 13th century,it became part of the properties of the Farnese until 1649. The archaeological area includes the town of Castro, the mediaeval rupestral hermitages and the remains of the Roman Villa Servicciola.
Today, Ischia di Castro's centro storico is an attractive, interesting place to explore and will give you a taste of local Italian life without the tourists.
There are many different landscapes in the Province, more than you could explore satisfactorily from a single holiday to holiday rental accommodation. The Tyrrhenian Coastline is the most famous part of the province, with its multiple sand and pebble beaches which form a natural boundary between land and sea.
The huge crater of Bolsena lake is extremely picturesque, and much of the area has been protected by being included in large swathes of national parkland, which attract walkers and mountain bikers who enjoy travelling slowly through some of Tuscany’s most dramatic scenery.
