About the home

Ideal for families, couples and small groups alike, this self-contained property offers the attractions of a rural or coastal retreat, but with the additional facilties of a small town, e.g. convience stores, restaurants, bars, cafes, gift shops, etc., all close by.

Set in a private and quiet location within the historic old town, just across the road from the lochside, this spacious three-bedroomed property is traditionally furnished with leather sofas, polished wooden floors, stripped pine furniture,brass beds and a large wooden antique fireplace. There's one kingsize bedroom, one double and one twin room with an extra futon bed. The fully tiled bathroom has a luxury free-standing roll-top bath.

The property provides the ideal location from which to explore the stunning scenery of Argyll and the Highlands, or to simply relax in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

The Central Scotland / Strathclyde / Argyll and Bute region

On the west coast of Scotland, Argyll is often called the gateway to the Highlands and renown for both its' history and its' beauty. Dramatic mountains give way to stunning sea lochs flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The area is dotted with numerous castles and hill-side crofts. Oban, Campbeltown, Tarbert, Glen Coe, Loch Ness and Loch Lomond are within easy reach by car. Likewise, the cities of Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh are readily accessible for day trips. The islands of Mull, Jura, Islay and Bute can all be visited by ferry. This is Scotland at its' finest.

The Inveraray area

Built in the mid 1700s, the quaint Royal Burgh of Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fyne, is one of the finest existing examples if a Georgian "new town" and is home to the Duke of Argyll, head of the Clan Campbell. It is the birthplace of Neil Munro, the author of 'Para Handy'. The fairy-tale castle, with its' neo-gothic turrets and conical roofs, overlooks the bay of Loch Shira. The castle hosts the Inveraray Highland Games annually in July. On a hill-top above the castle sits Dun na Cuaiche, a folly which affords superb views over the town and surrounding area. Other attractions in the town include the historic Inveraray Jail, the Artic Penguin Maritime Museum and the Bell Tower.

Within a few miles are Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens, Auchindrain Township Open Air Museum, Crarae Gardens and Cruachan Power Station (the Hollow Mountain). Locally, there are many opportunities for walkers, cyclists and sailors. Food lovers will delight in the pleasures of the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and the award-winning George Hotel.

By car from Glasgow, take the M8 westbound to the M898 over the Erskine Bridge. Join the northbound A82 sign-posted to Crianlarich. Follow the A82 along the side of Loch Lomond to Tarbet, then turn left onto the A83 through Arrochar. Continue on the A83 for about 20 miles to arrive in Inveraray. If approaching from Oban or North-west Scotland, use the A85, then the A819. Whilst a car is advisable, it is not essential, and it is possible to use public transport to get to Inveraray, i.e. buses run approximately twice daily from Glasgow, Fort William, Dunoon, etc.
