About this location

The Devon region

Instow is a glorious gem nestling in the crook of the North Devon coast. Situated on the Torridge estuary it provides a more sheltered sandy shoreline, ideal for family beach holidays as well as exhilarating water sports.

Within walking distance of the house, you can:

- enjoy Instow's safe, sandy beach with sand dunes and ice-cream/bucket and spade stall

- walk or cycle along the beautiful, coastal path - the Tarka Trail,

- sail, water-ski and canoe on the estuary (store your boat at the yacht club)

- visit the lovely pubs and restaurants in Instow

- buy delicious, local fish from the trawler on Fridays and Sundays

- visit the excellent local shop/deli/supermarket/bakery/post office with its fresh produce

- visit the local art gallery and monthly art exhibitions in the village hall

- watch the cricket at the glorious North Devon Cricket club overlooking the sea

For keen surfers or those looking to learn, the nearest surfing beach is Westward Ho! (no more than 10 minutes drive).

On the other side of the estuary, there are the well-known surf beaches of Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe. If you're looking for second hand wet suits for adults or children, try Tiki in Braunton which is hidden on Caen Street, off the main Braunton high street.

"Nice location - some concerns"

The house was reasonable for the price, although the neighbours proved to be the biggest negative. Whenever in the garden he was playing loud music (apparently attempting to annoy my wife and myself) … More

We are sorry to hear that there were a couple of issues during your stay at Redwing earlier this year but I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday in Instow.
I'm surprised by your comments but thank you for the feedback.
We usually hear that guests find the bed extremely comfortable. It is a sturdy Kingsize oak frame with an expensive, firm, thick mattress (I'm happy to send photos to any potential guests to confirm this). We find the cheaper mattresses are too soft and do not last very long.
Our SMART TV has the latest technology including Freeview and on demand capability through the unlimited WiFi. This was bought just before your stay in Spring 2014.
The neighbour is a well-liked and upstanding member of the local community. We have not had any complaints about him or his wife before.

Redwing Cottage is a lovely place to stay in the pretty village of Instow. Very well appointed and extremely comfortable, especially the beds! Nice back garden with a lovely decked area, views over the surrounding fields and with the sun rising in the morning a lovely place to sit and have breakfast. The cottage sleeps 7 and has every thing you could need for a stress free holiday, except wi-fi. On the edge of the villiage it is a 2 minute walk to the Tarka Trail and 3 minutes to the beach. Several good pubs doing excellent food within a short walking distance for those who don't fancy cooking! Also there is a brilliant local shop that sells everything you could possibly need. The only downside is it is on a main road with steep steps up to it which would make it difficult for people who are unfirm or disabled

Just to let you know Redwing now has unlimited Wi-Fi for all guests in the house.

This was our first time in Instow and we really enjoyed staying at Redwing. The house is well equipped, very comfortable and warm. It was also dog friendly! With the beach, general store, pubs and r… More
