Nestling peacefully beside the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders, midway between Peebles and Galashiels, 2 miles east of Innerleithen, the Old Railway Station has been extended to form comfortable self-catering accommodation for 9-10 persons.

The house lies in a quiet valley with superb views, interesting walks by the river and through the various neighbouring forests and secluded gardens where visitors can relax, enjoy the birdsongs and sunsets. The house comes with free wifi and iphone playing/charging facilities as well as a DVD player and a large 42” flat screen TV. The kitchen is a large space equipped with all the usual amenities including a Kenwood Chef for those wishing to do some farmhouse baking during their stay. The Old railway Station is pet friendly providing bowls, beds and a cage, and operates a no-smoking policy.

Adjacent to the Southern Upland Way, the Old Railway Station is ideally placed for touring the historic towns and abbeys of the Border country, the plethora of antique and collectors' shops, and for walking, cycling, riding, canoeing, mountain biking, golf, fishing (permits available locally) or visiting the capital city of Edinburgh, only 45 mins drive away. The immediate surrounding area is extremely dog-friendly providing interesting walks along the banks of the River Tweed, famous for its Salmon and Trout fishing, or behind the house in Plora Wood, linked to the 7 stanes Innerleithen Mountain Biking circuit and connected to the southern Upland Way.

The house itself has been extended over the original platform (which can be still be seen at each end of the property) to form comfortable and spacious accommodation all on one floor, and is surrounded on all sides by a large and peaceful garden with orchard and mature trees attracting many wild birds. All rooms are centrally heated from two gas boilers and the house is double glazed. It has 4 main bedrooms, a sun room, an extremely spacious living room, and an equally spacious kitchen with large breakfast table and can cater upto 10 persons with ease.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with gas hob, built-in electric oven and microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, separate condensing tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, kenwood chef, electric fry-pan, electric pancake maker, electric wok, sandwich maker, George foreman grill, and all the usual kitchen utensils, pans, crockery, cutlery and table linen etc. A rustic farmhouse style table with seating for 8-10 is featured in the centre of this room providing a warm and informal place to have breakfast.

The impressively sized 24ft living room overlooks the orchard. At one end there is a large 42” television giving access to over 100 TV and Radio channels though Sky Freeview. There is also a DVD player, and an ipod docking station with large speaker (this will charge all phone though an auxiliary cable (supplied) as well as iphones, ipads and ipods. The other end of the room is laid out for fine dining with a beautiful 7 ft dining table seating 8-10 and a dresser holding crockery for the same number of people.

There are 2 large bathrooms, both with separate bath and shower cubicle, one at either end of the house. In addition, the master bedroom is boasts an ensuite with shower, sink and wc.

The master bedroom, overlooking the orchard and the Tweed valley, has a four-poster bed and an ensuite shower/cloakroom. All bedrooms have ample drawer/wardrobe space, dressing table and bedside lamps. There are 2 twin rooms (one of which has a zip link bed forming a super king size bed) with view onto the garden and the forests beyond. These rooms have the use of a large bathroom with double sized corner bath and separate shower cubicle. At the other end of the house there is a family room comprising a king size bed, an adjacent single bed that hides a further pull-out single bed giving sleeping for 4. This room has the exclusive use of the bathroom opposite with large sunken bath and again a separate shower cubicle. A travel cot is also available.

There is private parking in the drive-way for up to 4 cars, and plenty of additional parking adjacent to the property for other visitors. A double garage provides secure storage for bikes, and there is a hose situated next to the garage allowing bikers and walkers to wash off any mud etc.

All bed linen, towels, dressing gowns, gas and electricity are included in the cost.

The Scottish Borders region

This is a great area to relax and take advantage of natural habitat, perfect for outdoor activities. Activities range from highly adventurous with the leading 7stanes mountain bike courses just a mile away, to general cycling and walking including the Southern Upland Way, to Fishing (the River Tweed is world famous for its Salmon and Trout fishing, best in late October and November in this section of the Tweed), Golf (it is in Scotland after all), to more relaxed past times such as enjoying the fantastic sunsets in the Orchard, local Horse-riding, or just a stroll along the river (accessible from the Orchard).


Walkerburn is a small village set up in the mid 1800's by Henry Ballantyne to mill cashmere. The mill has closed now, and the village is focusing on towards tourism with its accessibility to cycle tracks and walkways, as well as Fishing and Shooting. just a cafe open in the daytime and a post office/general store in the village itself, although the Ballantyne club, just 100 yards from the Railway Station is open 7 evenings a week, and welcomes visitors. The nearby village of innerleithen, just 2 miles along the river, has several boutique shops, half a dozen pubs/restaurants and 3 takeaways (Chippy/Indian/Chinese) that will deliver to the Railway Station. Further afield are the market towns of Peebles, Galashiels and Selkirk, and Edinburgh is only 40 mins away by car, and there is a hourly bus service that links all these places.

"A perfect example of a good cottage to stay in if you like the Scottish country-side"
