This house has been beautifully renovated, and the superb quality of the furnishings reflect its exquisite surroundings. With 3 bedrooms, the property sleeps 4 to 6 people in comfort, although we prefer to let to 4 people. Full C/H, and radiators throughout, triple glazed windows, a spiral staircase, wooden and tiled floors and wooden shutters on all windows, the house is cosy and warm in any weather. The lounge/dining area is open plan with a gorgeous leather "L" shaped seating area in front of a ornamental stone fireplace.
The fully equipped kitchen area has all the day to day essentials that any aspiring cook could need, and with a weekly fresh produce market in the local village on Mondays, creating a feast of local fare should be the least of your worries!! 3 bedrooms are located at the top of the ornate spiral staircase, two doubles and one twin, all with lovely views, and the main bedroom with its own balcony. The house also has 2 shower rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs.
Further details outdoors:
The property has a delightful gently sloping garden/orchard of approx 2 acres, which leads down to a small bubbling mountain river. The garden has plenty of solar lights for summer evenings. Sunbeds, outside eating area, etc are provided, as are a number of outdoor games for the younger visitors i.e. Swing ball, badminton etc etc. The hills around the house are often full of wandering deer, ponies, cows, red squirrels and Pine Martens.

Your home is absolutely spectacular. The moment we opened the door we were so so pleased at how lovely it was. the furnishings, the amenities, the cookware and dishes (although we didn't cook a thing!!), the linens and beds. It was so lovely and cozy. We loved it. You have a beautiful spot and a beautiful home. We also went to the restaurant La Vega a few times! the food was soooo good. Thank you, we really enjoyed ourselves. K&J and Daisy dog.
I just wanted to thank you for the house. It was absolutely fantastic, and we had a really great time. Everything was perfect, the location was great, we had a blast exploring the nearby towns and hiking in the picos. Thanks for everything! RM.
We had a fantastic stay at the old school house, thanks! We all felt thoroughly at home and loved the area and the house. Plenty to occupy everyone and we had great weather, too. In fact the only rain we saw was once or twice at night - MH.
Well we are back, and I can tell you we wish we were still there!!! We had such a great time and your lovely home made the time in Asturias extra special(the in laws were even impressed!!). We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for all your help, especially over the washing machine! The whole experience of staying at the house was superb, so relaxing and we look forward to staying there again. KL
Just to thank you because we spent a fantastic week at the Old School House, it is such a nice house located in a very special place that we are already thinking of going back soon. Thank you. SM
Just a note to say thank you so much for the weeks rental on the Old School House - absolutely fantastic, beautiful place. Thanks again, will write fully soon and you're welcome to use any praise in your web materials. SP
“We had the most lovely time at your house last week. We all had lots of sleep in your incredibly comfortable beds, with just the sound of the owl hooting and the bubbling stream to keep us company....
The weather was great and we actually managed to swim in the sea a few times with our wetsuits on - just about warm enough!
These were our tips for what it's worth:
Caves at Ribadesella - I'd say go to the information centre first because the exhibition is great (and in english) but the tour of the caves is all in Spanish.
Great fabada in the restaurant in La Marea, and we then did one of the walks in your Pilona walking book, alongside the river from the church in La Marea.
We did another lovely walk in your Pilona walk book, starting from the house and ending up at Porciles, through a valley above the house. We didn't complete it because of the kids, but an adult party could easily do the complete circuit to Porciles and back to the house.
Because we were flying back from Asturias airport in the afternoon, we went to Cudillero for lunch and had some lovely fish tapas.
We did a wonderful walk in the Picos from Lago Elcina - circular and about 5 miles long - perfectly manageable for smallish kids. It's in the "Picos de Europa" sunflower book.
Our favourite beach was Playa La Vega for the surfing, although Rodiles was beautiful too (but for some reason much colder sea temperatures)
Foodwise, we did end up in La Vega (Lo De Pelayo) a few times (no hardship there), and they were very happy to cook for us. Lush food!!
I'm sure we'll be back another time.
Many thanks for your help”,
CD and the kids.

The Old School House is a real gem; an attractive, cosy house in a beautiful location. There are a few good rental properties in this part of Spain but this one is really special: far enough away to be in splendid isolation but close enough to be convenient for shops, restaurants etc. Well stocked with linen and towels, the kitchen is also very well equipped for cooking for nights in by the fire in front of the dvd. The owners are extremely helpful and informative. We arrived to find a new year bottle of bubbly welcoming us. This was our second stay and we are already booked in for a third. Highly recommended. Response: It was our pleasure to have you as guests, we are so pleased that you have rebooked too. Thank you for taking the time to review our little hideaway in N Spain. |
