How to get there
RyanAir fly daily to Santander from London Stansted and twice weekly from Liverpool. Flights from Dublin are available. EasyJet fly from Stansted to Asturias/Oviedo and Santander...... also check out Easy Jet to Madrid from your local airport as Easyjet also have a great connection from Madrid daily into Asturias/ Oviedo airport. (Iberia airways also have this connection too) Air Nostrum fly to Oviedo from Heathrow, but this is an expensive flight (Emergencies only). These 3 airports in the NW area all have connections with various budget and scheduled airlines to most of the major cities in Europe, inc Amsterdam, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Paris etc etc. Brittany Ferries run a twice weekly car ferry service between Plymouth and Santander, whilst P&O Ferries operate the car ferries between Portsmouth and Bilbao also Santander Cars can be hired at all the above listed airports and ports, and the best service and quality of vehicle is usually provided by Hertz. For those people flying with Ryan Air, booking your car hire with Hertz through the Ryan Air website can offer substantial discounts. Rail travel is quite good in the area using both the RENFE and FEVE services, however, the main line from Santander to Oviedo/Gijon is single track, and rather slow.
