The Mallorca/Majorca region
Few spots on Earth can honestly be described as born vacation destinations, but the island of Mallorca off the coast of Spain is truly a world that exists solely as a space to revel, relax and enjoy life to its fullest. With tropical beaches that are the envy of the rest of Europe, Mallorca is one of the hottest European vacation destinations, and now that the secret is out, Mallorca is becoming one of the best known vacation spots in the world! Let’s take a closer look at what makes this beautiful island tick. Of course, the major attraction on Mallorca are the perfect beaches and warm year round temperatures. The island has a good mix of private beaches that belong to the various four and five star resorts dotted across the island, and public beaches that are maintained by the authorities to appear close to perfect at all times.
Unlike neighbouring Ibiza, Mallorca is an extremely popular vacation destination for families. In fact, a majority of tourists that visit Mallorca bring children, so many of the resorts here cater for their needs. Many of them have play areas and planned activities that entertain as well as occupy the little ones so that mum and dad have some time to themselves. Don’t be surprised to see beaches, restaurants and most public spaces filled with small children.
Once you’ve arrived on this beautiful tropical island, you will discover that there are many interesting and fun things to do. For instance, if you do decide to leave the perfect beach, you won’t have to go very far for fun. The Mallorca coast is a perfect spot for scuba diving as well as snorkelling. There are dozens of tour companies that will gladly take you out for the day, provide you with equipment and help you discover a whole new world under the waves.
There are also many beautiful old buildings that deserve exploration here. The island is filled with many old churches and cathedrals that demand attention. Sightseeing is a great way to get to know the area you are visiting and the island of Mallorca has many beautiful spots that make for great postcards. The island also contains many charming villages that are interesting examples of rural Spanish life. While many of these towns do contain the occasional tourist trap, the majority of them are quaint, beautiful spots that invite you to stroll ancient, worn cobblestone streets and offer café after café, all serving fresh food and coffee. Even away from the gentle lapping waves of the Med, you can’t go wrong on Mallorca. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your sun block, your Spanish dictionary and your sense of adventure and take the next flight to the magical tropical island of Mallorca.
Illetes area
Illetas Illetas is a resort extending around a number of lovely smaller coves with beautiful beaches and at the South end of the resort there is an interesting double sided beach peninsula. The resort is only a short drive from Palma de Mallorca making it a great place to stay if you want to combine relaxing on the beach and exploring the capital city. The resort lies on a relatively steep slope providing a beautiful setting with amazing sea views from most of the resort, but the height differences may make this resort less suitable for those who are motorically challenged. There is also a small part of the resort that is less elevated near to the main road to Palma and Cala Mayor. At this end of the resort there is a small commercial centre with a few shops, bank, pharmacy, doctor and a tourist information centre.
Neighbouring resorts of Portals Nous to the South and Cala Mayor to the North are both within walking distance or a few bus stops away.
Getting Around in Illetas - on foot - bicycle - public bus - taxi - car or motorcycle There are frequently operating bus lines that go along the main road of the resort. For example the bus lines number 3 and 104 are great ways to access the capital Palma and other neighbouring resorts. Getting around Illetas with bicycle is quite hard because of the steep hills and during the busy holiday season it will be quite hard to find parking space for you car unless your hotel can provide you one. That is why walking on foot and the public transportation are the best ways to get around the resort.
Shopping in Illetas There is only a limited selection of small shops at the resort of Illetas but Palma de Mallorca is only a few bus stops away. Palma de Mallorca is the capital of Balearic Islands and it is a real paradise for shopping offering large department stores, shopping centres and all kinds of fancy boutiques along the shopping streets and small walking streets. The closest shopping centre to Illetas is the shopping centre called Porto Pi which is only a few bus stops away from the resort.
Restaurants and Eating in Illetas There are a few small restaurants and cafes along the main road of the resort but a greater selection of restaurants can be found near the main beach Playa de Illetas. These restaurants are located at the bottom of the steep hill and they can't be seen from the main road but at the bottom there are nice restaurants and bars with sea views. If you are looking for more fancy restaurants there are many seafood restaurants at the harbour of the neighbouring resort of Portals Nous and all the restaurants of Palma de Mallorca are easily accessed with taxi and public bus.
