Northern England region

The Yorkshire Dales is home to over 1,500 square kilometres of the renowned Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is characterised by its unspoilt Dales villages, patchwork of dry stone walls and stunning fells and dales countryside. Visitors are able to travel for miles along quiet country roads, surrounded by magnificent views in every direction; an area dotted with ancient farming communities and rural villages which is typical of this region. This area is perfect for a truly relaxing holiday away from all the stresses and strains of day to day life, where you rediscover a gentler pace of life. It's also great for enjoying a whole host of outdoor pursuits including some of the very best walks in the UK.

The spa town of Ilkley itself offers many attractions with its elegant restaurants and chic shops, which mingle with many antique shops. Ilkley boasts one of the most reputable restaurants in the North of England – The Box Tree -, ideal for marking that very special occasion whilst holidaying in the area. Ilkley is very well situated for exploring the area, having easy access to Harrogate, Haworth and Skipton, making it the ideal holiday location. The river Wharfe runs through the town and Ilkley Moor stands proudly above. Ilkley Moor is a famous walker's paradise, and many walkers have left their mark with interesting engravings on the rocks that sit at the top of the moor. The area is steeped with history and offers something for everybody.

"Comfortable for a large family , with lots of space in a handy location"

We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers and booked 2 weeks across September/October. The house was easy to find and has a nice view from the main bedroom. It is relatively close to a main road, but the noise wasn't particularly noticable (probably because the rain drowned it out!). The house is large, comfortable and warm. The kids loved the big tv, internet connection and their own bedrooms. There is a lovely garden for younger kids at the rear, but we didn't really get the chance to use it The kitchen is well-equipped and the house was large enough to cater for the 30+-strong family gathering we held during our stay, with a big open-plan lounge/dining room/study. It's a bit of a trek into Ilkley by foot - OK for sightseeing, but not for carrying shopping. The owners were helpful when we needed them. We considered the house to be good value for money and will definitely consider this property again when next visiting the UK.
