The West Country region

Its beautiful sandy beaches pounded by the Atlantic, dramatic cliffs, picturesque fishing towns & sleepy villages all help make North Devon one of the countries top destinations.

The coastline of North Devon is designated an Area of Outstanding Beauty with Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks to explore and some of the finest golden sandy beaches many with blue flags. The lush rolling hills of the Devonshire countryside, known as Tarka Country, and the wild dramatic moorlands of Exmoor offer stunning landscapes for walkers or cyclists, whilst the golden sandy beaches and coves dotted along the coastline provide surf for the sports enthusiasts and lazy beach days for families or those wishing to take it easy.

In addition to all this there are spectacular yearly festivals such as the North Devon Festival and the Goldcoast Oceanfest, fishing, golf, family theme parks, horse riding, the unique villages of Lynton and Lynmouth with it's cliff top railway, boat trips to the beautiful Lundy Island and much more....

An ideal place for families on holidays - safe and picturesque with so many activities available.

As the largest resort in North Devon Ilfracombe nestles between the National Park of Exmoor to the East and the golden coast with its popular surfing beaches to the West. Ilfracombe offers you a gateway to an exciting blend of stunning coastal scenery, seaside fun, rural tranquillity and centuries of heritage and style.

Ilfracombe has a number of fine and award winning beaches within easy reach including Wildersmouth on the main seafront, Larkstone near the harbour and Rapparee near Hillsborough. In addition, the unique Tunnels Beaches, holders of a blue flag and seaside award provides safe bathing areas with secluded beaches and a boating pool. Access is through tunnels quarried beneath the cliffs. To the east lies the pretty cove of Hele Bay, also award winners, a paradise of rock pools and sandy inlets for a family day out.

It has its own harbour and quay, seafront gardens, parks and amusements including crazy golf plus many beautiful walks around Capstone Hill and over National Trust land on Hillsborough and the Torrs. It also has its own theatre, golf club, pitch and putt course, public swimming pool, aquarium, cinema, bowls club, tennis courts and model boat club.

There are many restaurants, cafés, tea-rooms, pubs and clubs throughout the town offering a varied choice of cuisines ranging from traditional English food, fish and chips and Devonshire cream teas to European, Asian and more. From a Sunday Roast to a pizza, there is something for everyone

There are a myriad of events and festivals in Ilfracombe and the surrounding area throughout the year for all of the family to enjoy including the Mayday 'Jack in the Green Festival', Victorian Week, Powerboat racing, Birdman competition, Rescue Day and the Ilfracombe carnival.

Ilfracombe is the 'jewel' of the North Devon coast and a remarkable location for romantic getaways, family holidays or activity breaks.
