The Devon region

Visit Devon and you'll find that there is more to this spectacular and diverse county than you might have thought. In addition to beautiful beaches and stunning scenery, you'll find National Parks, rustic villages and towns, historic buildings and ruins, extreme sports and the best in food and drink.

Ilfracombe Harbour

Ilfracombe is the perfect location to be based to take advantage of all that North Devon has to offer. There are a number of award winning sandy beaches within a short drive of the town which are perfect for children to play safely and also offer some of the best surfing in the UK.

With the South West Coast Path National Trail on your doorstep, rated as one of the top walks to be found anywhere in the world by Lonely Planet and voted Britain's best walking route by the readers of walk magazine, it's easy to explore the 630 miles of spectacular coastline.

Exmoor National Park is close by, containing an amazing variety of landscapes within its 267 square miles. A unique landscape of moorland, woodland, valleys and farmland. Within the National Park are the unique twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth connected by a cliff top railway and Combe Martin whose beach is famous for its safety, fun activities of kayaking, rock pooling, dolphin watching and general cleanliness.

To the West are the beautiful Hartland Peninsula and the market town of Bideford. On the coast and Estuary you will find Appledore, Westward Ho! and Clovelly, one of the last feudal villages. South of Ilfracombe is Barnstaple with its famous Pannier Market and Butchers Row.

Although a car is advised to enable you to explore the area in full, there are a number of attractions within walking distance including the award-winning Ilfracombe Aquarium, the unique Tunnels Beaches, fascinating Ilfracombe Museum, Larkstone Leisure Park, Hele Cornmill and Chambercombe Manor, one of Britain's most haunted houses.

If it's entertainment you are looking for, you will find numerous events and festivals throughout the year in Ilfracombe, many based on the quayside at the historic harbour and at the prestigious Landmark Theatre on the seafront.
