GUESTBOOK - a few comments from our guests over the years :
"The island is lovely and we spent most days cycling around visiting. The house is also lovely and we had a very pleasant stay. I think it is one of the nicest houses I have rented and I love your decoration and the beautiful pictures.
Thanks - Jo, Jerome and Family, October 2012"
"Just writing to say that we had a wonderful stay at les Voiles. It was very relaxing and the house was just great! All your restaurant recommendations were also first class. The Ile de Re is a long way for us to come, but it was definitely worth it! We particularly liked the fact that it was so low key but wanting for nothing!
Lisa and Philip from Australia, September 2012"
"We absolutely loved our holiday at Les Voiles. It was a truly memorable trip and your house is wonderful.

"We had a wonderful holiday at Les Voiles. The house is beautifully decorated and we felt so relaxed. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals at L'Ocean and exploring the wonderful Le Bois market etc. It was everything we had hoped for, and it all exceeded our expectations."
Stella and Graham, July 2012"
"Just a quick email to say thank you for all your help and for the use of your beautiful house. It has been a real home from home and I have to say that you have thought of every detail. We really cant think of what else we would add/change. Comfortable beds, impressive decoration, and all the facilities we needed for a family of 5 with three young children for a week. We came by train and travelled light which meant we used the washing machine, borrowed your bucket and spades, beach towels etc and my children read your books! The house is well located for all the main towns by bike giving us lots of choice about what to do and where to go every day."

"Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know we had an absolutely brilliant holiday at Les Voiles! We have all fallen head over heels in love with the Il de Re, and your beautiful home was perfect in every way, beautifully decorated and in the perfect location to explore the island. We covered as much as we could from La Flotte to Ars en Re, trying the local mussels and oysters all along the way, every village and shop we visited was a joy.
Thank you for all the thought that you put into preparing for the holiday, communication was so concise and we really did not have one minute of stress. We will definitely be returning (with an empty suitcase for the shopping!!!)"

The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
Linked to La Rochelle by a stunning bridge, the Ile de Ré with its unique Atlantic Ocean micro-climate benefits from a high rate of sunshine, equal to that of the Côte d’Azur. The Ile de Ré is made up of ten unspoilt villages maintained in the local architectural tradition and the island fiercely conserves the fragile beauty of the 70 kilometres of coast.
Each village has its own character and has something to offer every taste - from luxury spas, fabulous restaurants and chic shops to the simpler pleasures of the local markets, freshly caught fish and organic produce. The houses and the streets follow the traditional 'Retais' decor: whitewashed walls, green shutters and winding lanes lined with hollyhocks, the island's emblematic flower.
The Ile de Ré is crisscrossed with 110 Km of cycle paths that allow you to discover the 10 villages, the beaches, the woodland, the salt marshes…making this island a uniquely peaceful and relaxing holiday destination. By far the best way to discover the island, the cycle paths are flat and easy to follow and bicycle hire for all levels is available everywhere.
The waters around the Ile de Ré are a haven for watersports enthusiasts – windsurfing, sailing and safe bathing are to be found on the sandy southern coastline. In the north, the Fier d’Ars-en-Ré is a patchwork of mudflats and salt marshes, where a variety of waterfowl and birds of prey is to be found. The flat-bottomed boats, the salt-gatherer huts, the oyster beds and the wild moorland give the Ile de Ré a romantic beauty all of its own.
If you want to venture further afield, La Rochelle has a mediaeval fortified centre with a famous aquarium and France's largest Zoo, La Palmyre, is located further down the coastine. The lovely beaches around Royan, the idyllic estuary of the Charente or the northern Bordeaux vineyards are also worth a day trip.
Ile de Re
Le Bois is a typical Ile de Ré village with its narrow winding lanes lined with flowers, fine restaurants and charming cafés. At its heart is the town square with quaint shops and the island's best indoor and outdoor market which is open all year round. The safe, sandy beaches offer great watersports for children just learning to swim or sail, as well as more adventurous pursuits for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Other activities such as horseriding, tennis and of course cycling are all available in Le Bois.
The village of Le Bois Plage en Ré is situated on the south west coast of the Island, running along 4 kms of sandy beaches and surrounded by wooded countryside. The town itself is 5 minutes from St. Martin, the island's capital, filled with brocantes, fashionable boutiques, lively bars and quayside restaurants.
