About the home

The location of the house being central and yet tranquil is the ideal base from which to explore the delights of the island.

It lies 40 metres from the seashore, ideal for beachcombing and 600m from the year round food market, port and the many shops, restaurants and galleries in the centre of the village!

The house itself is a typical detached, single storey Ile de Re house, set within a delightful gated domaine of four very private houses each with their own entrance and parking facilities located in an enviable and tranquil area of la Flotte.

The house is very comfortable and well equipped and the enclosed south facing garden is ideal for families with young children.

Numero Neuf is only a moment from the sea, the nearest sandy beach is the town beach 1.5km away in La Flotte; a short bike ride or car journey away are many other beautiful sandy beaches.

Cycling is probably the most enjoyable way to enjoy ile de re, there are however, many other available pursuits to discover such as surfing, wind and kite surfing, water skiing, sailing, horse riding, golf, fishing, tennis, and kite flying.

Not to mention the many markets, galleries, restaurants and shops in La Flotte and the beautiful neighbouring town of Saint Martin. Further afield you can visit the Phare and explore some of the other delightful villages on the island.

At low tide you can be on the pebble beach within a seconds of leaving the front door, enjoying a paddle or a swim or perhaps some fishing and beachcombing.

For the more adventurous the ecole de voile is on the doorstep only two minutes walk from the house offering numerous facilities for all age groups of sailors.

AVAILABLE OPTIONAL SERVICES


By prior arrangement with our representative groceries can be at the house for your arrival.

Beach towels can be hired at a cost of 20€ per person.

For stays of 2 weeks or more, a mid-stay clean can be arranged at a cost of €70 and must be requested at the time of booking due to the busy scheduling requirements for high/peak season stays, the charge will be added to the final invoice payable 8 weeks before departure. Equally mid-stay change of bed and bathroom linen can be arranged at a cost of €20 per person.

MAKING A BOOKING


To secure your holiday booking we require a 40% deposit to be paid by cheque or transfer in £ Sterling or €uros.

Payment of the invoice for the balance of your holiday is due no later than 8 weeks prior to the date of your arrival.



REFUNDABLE SECURITY DEPOSIT


We do require a damage deposit in the sum of £1,000 for stays of 14 days or more and £500 for a stays of 7 days payable with your holiday balance, by way of separate Sterling or €uro cheque.

We endeavour to return cheques uncashed to our guests within 14 days of your return home, unless there should be a need for a retention.

Whilst smokers are welcome we should appreciate it if you could not smoke inside the house.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

The area of Charente Maritime is on the Atlantic coast most famous for its salt marshes and sandy beaches. La Rochelle is a bustling fortified town with a wealth of recreational activities including an aquarium, it boasts fantastic quayside restaurants and super shopping.

La Rochelle is 10 minutes from Ile de Re by car. The climate is reliable and warm in summer and whilst temperatures will drop in Autumn it will remain reliably sunny.

The Ile de Re / La Flotte en Re area

Ile de Re is a beautiful island. It measures 100m at its narrowest point and 15 km in length. It rests off the coast of La Rochelle connected by a 3km toll bridge; the island is dotted with nature reserves and therefore home to a wide variety of plant and wildlife.

It is protected from aggressive new building and thus the architecture retains all of its original character and features have remained unaltered for centuries. The island is particularly famous for its salt, oysters and potatoes - local produce is invariably used in many of the islands restaurants.

Although a natural haven for watersports enthusiasts, there are many other activities readily available - particularly cycling since the dedicated cycle paths link all 10 main villages on the island together making it a safe and pleasurable activity for family outings. (The island is mainly flat so there are few uphill struggles!) You can hire bicycles, child seats, carriages in a multitude of rental shops on the island.

La Flotte is a charming large village with a bustling centre and picture postcard harbour. All facilities in the village are within walking distance from the house and whilst the thermometer may drop at the end of September there is still a lot of sunshine throughout the year to enjoy.

Ile de Re is linked by a 3km toll bridge to La Rochelle on the mainland, midway between Nantes and Bordeaux.

BY ROAD:
Calais/Ile de Re: approx. 7.30 hours, 450 miles
Cherbourg/Ile de Re: 6 hours, 320 miles
St. Malo/Ile de Re: 4.30 hours, 220 miles
Boulogne/Ile de Re: 7 hours, 430 miles
Bridge toll is seasonal: 9 euros from 12th September to 19th June, 16.50 euros 20th June to September 11th

La Rochelle airport is 13km by car from La Flotte.

CAR RENTAL:
Rental is available from La Rochelle airport, Europcar in Ars en Re and La Flotte.

HOWEVER:
a car is not necessary once you are on the island as thanks to more than 60km of dedicated signposted cycle paths the island is your oyster - bike rental is available in many locations across the island including 4 shops in la Flotte.

BY TRAIN:
The Atlantic TGV runs daily to La Rochelle railway station from Bordeaux and Paris-Montparnasse.
Paris to La Rochelle is approx 3 hours.
La Rochelle railway station is 20 km from La Flotte

TAXIS:
Widely available from airport and railway station.

We really loved the Ile – as soon as we arrived we thought that it was a bit special
La Flotte suited us very well as it wasn't as smart as St Martin ( although that is better for people watching!) but a lovely harbour and the market was fabulous
We all loved Numero Neuf and it was perfect for us – we will recommend it and hopefully be able to stay again.
