The house is very comfortable and well equipped and the enclosed south facing garden is ideal for families with young children.

Numero Neuf is only a moment from the sea, the nearest sandy beach is the town beach 1.5km away in La Flotte; a short bike ride or car journey away are many other beautiful sandy beaches.

Cycling is probably the most enjoyable way to enjoy ile de re, there are however, many other available pursuits to discover such as surfing, wind and kite surfing, water skiing, sailing, horse riding, golf, fishing, tennis, and kite flying.

Not to mention the many markets, galleries, restaurants and shops in La Flotte and the beautiful neighbouring town of Saint Martin. Further afield you can visit the Phare and explore some of the other delightful villages on the island.

At low tide you can be on the pebble beach within a seconds of leaving the front door, enjoying a paddle or a swim or perhaps some fishing and beachcombing.

For the more adventurous the ecole de voile is on the doorstep only two minutes walk from the house offering numerous facilities for all age groups of sailors.

Our house is managed by an English speaking representative who will be there to greet you at check-in and can be on hand during your stay to organise babysitting, mid week cleaning, groceries etc.

By prior arrangement with our representative groceries can be at the house for your arrival.

Beach towels can be hired at a cost of £15 per person.

For stays of 2 weeks or more, a mid-stay clean can be arranged at a cost of £60 and must be requested at the time of booking due to the busy scheduling requirements for high/peak season stays, the charge will be added to the final invoice payable 8 weeks before departure. Equally mid-stay change of bed and bathroom linen can be arranged at a cost of €20 per person.

The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region

The area of Charente Maritime is on the Atlantic coast most famous for its salt marshes and sandy beaches. La Rochelle is a bustling fortified town with a wealth of recreational activities including an aquarium, it boasts fantastic quayside restaurants and super shopping.

La Rochelle is 10 minutes from Ile de Re by car. The climate is reliable and warm in summer and whilst temperatures will drop in Autumn it will remain reliably sunny.

Ile de Re

Ile de Re is a beautiful island. It measures 100m at its narrowest point and 15 km in length. It rests off the coast of La Rochelle connected by a 3km toll bridge; the island is dotted with nature reserves and therefore home to a wide variety of plant and wildlife.

It is protected from aggressive new building and thus the architecture retains all of its original character and features have remained unaltered for centuries. The island is particularly famous for its salt, oysters and potatoes - local produce is invariably used in many of the islands restaurants.

Although a natural haven for watersports enthusiasts, there are many other activities readily available - particularly cycling since the dedicated cycle paths link all 10 main villages on the island together making it a safe and pleasurable activity for family outings. (The island is mainly flat so there are few uphill struggles!) You can hire bicycles, child seats, carriages in a multitude of rental shops on the island.

La Flotte is a charming large village with a bustling centre and picture postcard harbour. All facilities in the village are within walking distance from the house and whilst the thermometer may drop at the end of September there is still a lot of sunshine throughout the year to enjoy.
