The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
Nearby la Rochelle is a beautiful historical town with its famous harbour, and amazing Museums, the famous Aquarium (the first in Europe!), enjoy a walk along the harbour boarded with nice "cafés", and excellent restaurants. La Rochelle has a wonderful array of individual shops. In July, we can book for you tickets at the famous musical festival which takes place every year in la Rochelle (the Francofolies).
In September you can profit by visiting the boat show, or culteral events like"Sites en scene"in the summer; a movie Festival. La Rochelle is a well known start for many international sailing races. For a worthwhile day trip take the pleasure boat (you can purchase your ticket on the harbour) to Fort Boyard, or the different islands of the Pethuis: Oléron, Aix and Madame...
Ile de Re
Ile de Ré, off La Rochelle is linked to the mainland by a bridge. It offers an idealized version of French life. Cars are in the minority; most people use cycle paths that criss-cross the island's vineyards, pine forests and salt flats. Ile de Ré salt is now predictably fashionable in gasto circles.
The ice cream is hand made and the glorious sandy beaches-all open to the public-are well suited to shrimping and picnics. Just 15 km long and a mere100 metres at its narrowest point, the Island of Ré is home to 16000 people. The residents congregate around ten main large villages, including Rivedoux
On ré southern side you will find many expansive beaches and on its northern side many typical yachting harbours.
Though most visitors arrive in summer, Ré has much to offer throughout the year-the temperature may drop after September, but the sun is ever present all year round. Ré's close proximity to mainland cities make it an ideal place as a base camp to explore other cities (Bordeaux and Nantes are just 1 hour and a half away; La Rochelle a mere 15 minutes). The construction of a bridge in 1988 puts everything within very close proximity.

"A great house full of character"
We really enjoyed our stay at Green Oaks. The house is in a very quiet area and enjoys its own private gardens whilst being just a 5 minute walk to the village centre and the esplanade. The cottage ha… More

"Avoid this rental."
The villa is cramped and uncomfortable with few facilities. The main 'bedroom' is in a shed in the garden with no opening windows and an interior loo and shower with no ventilation, the bed is old and dirty, the linen and towels were threadbare. The matresses are old and stained. When we complained the owners were abusive. There are no views from the property which is opposite an abandoned building site.
the people were expected to pay the balance 4 weeks before their stay but they prefered to pay in cash at arrival, what we accepted as usual. When we welcame them at the villa, they had no cash and wanted to enter the villa with the promise of paying in cash later during their stay.
they left without staying and so,not being able to give any opinion
the villa is typical of"isle of Re" and obviously for people who are fond of the Island .Created by a famous french island designer, the villa is one of the loviest villa of the village.kind regards

"Green Oaks was a fantastic little property"
We had a fantastic time in Green Oaks. The house was so lovely and ideal for a couple or would be equally comfortable for a family. It provbided everything one needs for a holiday let. It was in a very central location within easy reach of restaurants and shops. Ile de Re was beautiful and our only problem was that our time there was too short - only five days. It would definitely be a place to which we would return. For future visitors please visit the market in Le Flotte
Thank you ,Rita, for your confidence.we wer very happy to welcome you for thé second time at thé villa in september 2012
