A recently restored Townhouse constucted in the 19th century, well situated in the heart of La Flotte. The house has been tastefully decorated in the Ile de Ré style. The house has recently benefited from a new heated pool in a spacious, private stone walled garden. The ground floor consits of a hall way entrance, leading to the kitchen and dining room. The living room has a garden/pool view. The garden has a separate self contained studio. The first floor of the main house has 3 en suite bedrooms, with king sized beds, the other 2 bedrooms have a wc, 1 with a king size bed, the other with 2 single beds, these in turn share a bathroom.

The kitchen has extensive units designed to offer ample storage for china, glassware and cooking equipment. There is a large fridge, electric cooker, electric ceramic hob, dishwasher and microwave. The laundry room has a washing machine, dryer, iron and iron-board.

A large table allows seating for 12 people (a further garden table is situated outside). The terrace is ideal for barbecues. Comfortable sun loungers are supplied. All towels and bed linen are included during July and August, otherwise supplied at 20€ per person.

The owner, Valérie Duvert, (French speaking) is at hand to help you and can point you in the right direction for hiring bikes, recommending restaurants, suggesting beaches and any other local information that you might need during your stay.

TO MAKE A RESERVATION:

A 30% deposit , payable by bank transfer, is required to secure your booking. The remainder is due 6 weeks before arrival.

TOWELS AND LINEN:

Are provided during July and August otherwise at 25€ per person.

SMOKING:

It would be very much appreciated if, for the comfort of other guests, smokers could refrain from smoking inside the house.

REFUNDABLE BREAKAGES DEPOSIT:

We will ask you for 1500€ on arrival which will be returned to you after your holiday providing everything looks to be in order (subject to satisfactory property inspection).

END-OF-STAY CLEANING:

Guests may opt either to clean on departure or use our cleaning service at a cost of 150 euros.

CLEANING DURING YOUR STAY:

Can be arranged at a cost of 15€ per/hour.

The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region

The department of Charente Maritime is situated on the Atlantic coast of France famous for the beautiful sandy beaches which are also indigenous to Ile de Ré with the tidal flow creating the natural phenomenon of salt marshes. The Office du Tourisme of Charente Maritime states the depatment has the 2nd most hours of sunshine and 2nd highest year round average temperature after the Cote-D'Azur, ideal for cultivating the oyster beds and vineyards.

The organisation of events such as Sites en Scène, Fort Boyard, La Rochelle's Fancofolies, the Festival du Cinéma, the Grand Pavois, the Whitbread Trophy and major international sailing events, the Saintes Académies Musicales and the Montguyon Music Festival all contribute daily to the heritage and vitality of Charente Maritime.

Ile de Re

Ile de Ré, off La Rochelle is linked to the mainland by a bridge. It offers an idealized version of French life. Cars are in the minority; most people use the cycle paths that criss-cross the island’s vineyards, pine forests and salt flats. Ile de Ré salt is now predictably fashionable in gastro circles. The ice cream is hand made and the glorious sandy beaches - all open to the public - are well suited to shrimping and picnics.

The house in the heart of La Flotte en Ré, It is a quiet, secluded and tranquil setting, the island is home to an incredible variety of plant and bird life. The village has its own produce market, offering high quality fresh fish and locally farmed oysters, cheese and patisserie. Everything is within walking distance including a wide variety of restaurants, and other commerce.

Just 15km long and a mere 100 metres at its narrowest point, the island of Ré is home to 18 000 people. The residents congregate around ten main large villages, including La Flotte en Ré on the island's north coast.

On Ré's southern side you will find many expansive beaches and on its northern side many yachting harbours. Though most visitors arrive in the summer, Ré has much to offer throughout the year - the temperatures may drop after September, but the sun is ever present all year round. Ré's close proximity to mainland cities make it an ideal place as a base camp to explore other cities (Bordeaux and Nantes are just two hours away; La Rochelle a mere 30 minutes). The construction of a bridge in 1988 puts everything within close proximity.

"AVOID"

We paid a lot of money to stay here and quite honestly it was not worth a penny. Il de Re is nice but stay somewhere else.This property has the potential to be a great venue if you want to be in the h… More

"Hideous, over priced, neglected property. AVOID> EVITER"

Dirty, shabby and tired. Uncared for by the owner who has way overpriced the property and crammed as many beds as possible into a small house. Bathrooms just cupboards with no natural light, appalling… More

"Super family holiday accomodation"

Two families totaling 4 adults and 6 offspring (8-17yrs) rented this house for a week. It has a fantastic location very close to the hub of the town of La Flotte, several doors down from the daily market. The advantage is immediate access to the finest freshest food available, the downside is some early morning noise whilst it is set up each day. The accommodation is good - the rooms are smallish but comfortable and most have their own small bathroom. The outside space for eating, lounging and swimming in the pool is super and very private for such a central location. There is lots of space for bikes which are essential to make best use of the island. There is a pleasant small beach within 5 minutes walk and the evening atmosphere around the harbour is very relaxed and friendly. Satellite TV (especially during the Olympics!) or iPod music player would have been useful for occasional teenage moodiness. Overall a lovely place to stay and judging from prices in the estate agent windows a very valuable property.
