Hauts de Cocraud 4-6P
About the home
Residence Les Hauts de Cocraud, built in 1996, is ideally situated alongside a watersports centre and within an easy walk of a sandy beach and the charming harbour and shops of La Flotte en Ré. This is a simple 2* hotel and holiday village, comprising 92 terraced, whitewashed houses, built in the island's traditional architectural style, each with its own enclosed courtyard. Children are well provided for with an outdoor heated swimming pool and a large grassed play area with climbing frame and table tennis. The village is completely pedestrianised, creating a safe and peaceful environment which is particularly appreciated by young families. Further details indoors:
The duplex house for 4 to 6 people is 50 m².
Th house iis centrally heated and is simply furnished with all the essentials. On the ground floor, is a living room with a trundle sofa-bed for 2 people, a dining table and chairs, a TV and a fire-place. There is a kitchenette equipped with hot plates, fridge, mini oven or micro wave, dishwasher, crockery and cutlery for 6 people. Just a word of advice: the kitchen equipment is very French so you will have a coffee making machine and expresso cups but no kettle (although this can be requested from reception) and we recommend you bring your own mug unless you are happy to do it like the locals and drink your morning tea from a bowl! On the first floor there is 1 bedroom with 2 single beds, 1 bedroom with bunk beds and 1 bathroom with a bath and shower hose. The toilet is separate and is on the ground floor. Every house has a private courtyard with garden furniture, which is a great place to relax over a coffee or an evening aperitif as the sun goes down. All houses here benefit from a level of hotel service so bed linen and towels are included in the price and beds are made up for you prior to arrival. What is more, a mid-stay clean and an end of stay clean is included (excludes kitchen cleaning so don't forget the tea-towels and scourers!) making departure day so much more relaxed. For 2 week stays, the cleaners will change your bed linen after 1 week.
Please also note that WIFI access is available in all accommodation with extra cost payable to Reception.
Further details outdoors:
Every house has a private courtyard with garden furniture.
At the residence there is an outdoor heated swimming pool open approx. from mid April, a laundry room and a children's playground.
The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
With 2600 hours of sunshine per year, the vineyards of the Ile de Ré receive as much sun as Nice in the south of France. The exceptional microclimate ensures the maturity of all products cultivated here. The land is dominated by sandy soil, ideal for vine growing, across 650 hectares of the island.
The Ile de Re / La Flotte en Re area
Situated less than 3km from La Rochelle on the west coast of France, Ile de Re boasts a sunshine record more or less equal to the Côte d?Azur on the Mediterranean.
Ile de Re, with a coastline stretching some 70km, is connected to the mainland by an elegant 3km bridge and is made up of ten villages, where the traditional architecture of the region prevails. The little low houses, whitewashed walls, blue or green shutters and a riot of colourful hollyhocks typify this charming island.
To trully apreciate this enchanting island, you need to relax, move down a gear, and leave your car parked up. A network of 87km of flat cycle tracks means that all the family can discover the villages, beaches, forests and salt marshes at a leisurely pace and for the most part, well away from the roads. Little fishing and yacting harbours, village markets, ecomuseums and bird sanctuaries are all easily accessible by bike. There are numerous cycle hire shops with all manner of two and three wheeled inventions to transport even the very young and no hill is over 19m above sea level.
LA FLOTTE
La Flotte has beautiful houses lining the pretty port, quaysides and harbour. Both here and in the village centre are many pedestrian streets. Stroll around the narrow streets of the centre! La Flotte presents an interesting contrast, between the beautiful residences aligned along the quays and the labyrinth of the small houses in the interior lanes. Do not miss the daily indoor markets of the old market hall. Then sit back outside a café and watch the world go by! Don?t miss the medieval market and then visit the Maison du Platin dedicated to the various agricultural and maritime activities of the island.
Formerly a small village of fishermen, the village was formed around the castle of Mauléons, close to the current church. Little by little, it grew around its developing port in the 18th century under Louis XV. The trade and the exchanges were very prosperous there as the beautiful houses on the avenue Felix Faure will testify.
The church Sainte Catherine?s bell-tower reminds us that before the trains, the trading ships made stopovers here: Norwegians, Dutchmen, Spaniards and even Americans came to buy the famous Ile de Re salt, brandy, vinegar... The characteristic pier goes back to 1840; it extends its superb circular arm of over 200 metres long, with a 9 metre high lighthouse at its end, visible from 15 kms away.
