The house is on the edge of La Flotte, a small fishing port with numerous restaurants and shops as well as a famous daily medieval food market, tourist information, banks and tennis courts. All of these are within a few minutes walk of the house.
The accommodation includes three double bedrooms and a sofa bed in the Sitting Room. There is a large private garden with off street parking.
The house overlooks the sea, with excellent small boat sailing and windsurfing at high tide. There is a small shingle beach beside the house and a large sandy supervised beach at the other end of the village. There is a modern indoor public swimming pool 5 minutes drive from the house.
La Flotte is within easy reach of the beautiful city of La Rochelle (by car or by bus or ferry from the island), where the tourist attractions include a modern aquarium and maritime and natural history museums.
The Futurescope site at Poitiers (60 mins) with its high tech exhibits contrasts with the tranquillity of the Venise Verte, an area of canals to the North of La Rochelle, where canoes can be hired.

The single storey accommodation is generously sized. Single beds throughout but can be pushed together to make doubles. Double sofa bed in Sitting Room.
Everyone who has stayed here has commented favourably on the standard and quality of the accommodation. We maintain it with a no compromise attitude.

The large paved Terrrace opens off the Sitting Room and has a table and chairs, sun loungers, deckchairs, etc. It is fitted with a motorised sun-blind.
The beautiful garden has areas of grass for children to play but is well planted, has an automatic watering system and is professionally maintained.
You can drive in and park by the front door which is very useful when unloading small children or shopping.
We do not have a swimming pool because the sea is so close at hand. If you like sailing or windsurfing, this is perfect (small boat slipway 2 minutes from house and park your boat in the garden).
On arrival you will be met by our key-holder . She speaks fluent English and will show you the house. If you encounter problems during your stay she is readily contactable as she lives next door. There is a comprehensive guide to the island in the house which we have written and which includes information about the beaches, restaurants, shopping, sports facilities, tourist attractions, etc.
There is a large collection of DVDs and videos for your use, together with a small library and numerous guide books. There is free internet access.
The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
The area around the Ile de Re is known for its high level of annual sunshine - equal to France's Mediterranean coast.
Charente Maritime is mostly a relatively flat agricultural area with the Regional administrative centre of La Rochelle containing a well known university which contributes to its reputation as a cultural centre.
There is lots to explore but, for your first visit, you may well find you never leave the island because there is so much to see and do there.
Ile de Re
The island's website is well worth looking at (www.holidays-iledere.co.uk) and describes it as a charming jewel. No wonder it is one of favourite destinations for Parisians.
The island has been a well known tourist resort since the 1920s. It was transformed when a new road bridge connected it to the mainland about 20 years ago but the government of the island has been careful to guard its character against over development or unpleasantness (camping and camping cars are very carefully restricted, for example).
Historically the island has been a militarily strategic site. There are several Vauban forts and the town of St Martin is a World Heritage site.

"Delightful, well equipped, great location"
We enjoyed a lovely two weeks as a family at the house. We found it roomy, well equipped with everything you would need and in an ideal location. Very easy and short walk to the harbour and shops in la Flotte with plenty of choice of eateries. Easy 15 min bike ride into St Martin, which is very stylish and again plenty of choice of cafes, restaurants and shops. We found beautiful beaches all around the island. An excellent and detailed guide to the island is provided in advance and in the house by the owners. There are also lots of guide books, leaflets and maps in the house to use. On the odd grey day the men in the group were thrilled that wifi meant they didn't have to miss sporting fixtures !
I loved the whole vibe of cycling on the island - everyone from the stylish more mature cyclist to youngsters out and about on the well maintained cycle paths. Very little Lycra on show, it's very much cycling for all. Great holiday!

"Great location, well equiped spacious and comfortably."
2 Rue de la Cote had a lovely feel to it as you walked through the door for the first time. Very well equiped spacious and comfortably. Lovely big terrace and beautiful large garden to relax in. Location was fantastic every possible requirement catered for without even getting in the car. 500yds from the seafront ! If you like biking walking and the outdoor life this is perfect but also the villa can be very cosy in the evenings.

"A fabulous house to stay in whilst discovering the Ille de Re"
We stayed Rue de la cote for a week in early July. It was fabulous. The garden was a picture, full of hollyhocks and south facing so you got the evening sun till very late. The house is decorated and furnished in that slightly washed out seaside style, very much the in look at the moment and it is lovely. It had solid wood floors and pretty shutters. All the linen was crisp and clean (much of it from the White company). The kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed to put a home made french meal on the table. The lounge had very comfy sofas and an arm chair and a large table and chairs for dining. The large bathroom had a really good shower and large sink. Although the house only has one bathroom, it was not a problem because there is another separate toilet. We also were able to use their internet phone to make a few calls home.
The location of the house is close to the sea and within a short walk to the town of La flotte where we were able to visit a wonderful market for fresh fish, produce and bread. Having visited France many times in other areas, we found the people on the Ille de Re to be exceptionally friendly.
We hired bikes and all went off round discovering the island, and cycling in areas where there were no cars; heaven.
We wondered how we would get on the 3 teenage girls (daughter and 2 friends). They had a lovely time and we were able to give them a fair degree of freedom, feeling that they were very safe coming home unaccompanied at night.
Every village on the island has its own character but we preferred La Flotte to them all. Its narrow streets, Hollyhocks and beautiful market coupled with the area around the harbour make it a truly special place to visit. This is a really great holiday home.
