About the home

This charming 4-person apartment is ideally located in the heart of one of the nicest sections of Mediterranean coast, 5km from the pleasant city of Hyères-les-Palmiers and 40km from St-Tropez..

Les Marines du Levant apartment is surrounded by a nature reserve, only steps from a nice sandy beach and a secluded fishing harbour, with restaurants and shops easily accessible on foot. Just 5mn the Toulon-Hyères airport, this is the perfect place for an extended week-end get-away, a long relaxing summer holiday or a winter/spring sunny escape.

The quiet two-level residence Les Marines du Levant has extensive grounds with trees and flowerbeds and DIRECT ACCESS TO THE BEACH of les Salins, with no road to cross. The warden lives on the premises. The apartment comes with a designated PRIVATE PARKING spot in the adjacent gated parking lot for your vehicule. No car traffic is allowed around the buildings, for safety and quietness.

The first-floor location allows a VIEW OF THE HARBOUR of Les Salins (also called Port Pothuau) from the main terrace. The terrace faces south towards the sea and is always protected from the dominant northerly wind (mistral), so it is nice to take the sun and eat there even in winter. New this year: we are installing (nov 2011) a large rolling shade over the terrace, for better sun protection in summer. Our clients love the sunshine, but at times felt it was getting too hot in spite of the umbrellas on the terrace!

The 45m2 are split in 2 levels: the living room, kitchen, bathroom and sleeping cabin with brand new bunk beds are on the main floor; the upper half-floor (mezzanine) accessible by a stairway, has a 2-person bed (140cm wide) for comfortable sleeping with a good mattress and slatted base, and a ceiling fan, and a balcony with a nice view over the Salins des Pesquiers nature reserve at the back.

The apartment sleeps 2 to 4 adults or 2 adults with 1 or 3 children (4 persons maximum in total), it is perfect for a couple or a small family. Children are welcome and enjoy the easy access to the beach. Well behaved pets are welcome.

We take great care of the maintenance, fix everything that needs to be in the shortest delay and continuously update and improve the Marines du Levant apartment for the comfort of our guests. In the past few years, we have replaced the old wooden window frames with new sliding glass doors, changed the terrace and balcony pavement, had the staircase covered in wood, bought new bunk sturdy beds, updated part of the furniture, repainted the apartment... In 2010 we installed new motorized rolling blinds. This winter, in addition to installing a large rolling shade on the south-facing terrace, we have also remodelled the bathroom, ready for spring 2012!

Facilities

The bright living room opens onto the terrace, and has a dining table for 4, a settee and TV.

The open kitchen is nicely equipped, with dinnerware for 4 persons, a 2-burner electric stove, microwave/grill oven, refrigerator, electric coffee maker and even a small dishwasher.

The bathroom, just remodelled this tyear (nov 2011) has a washbasin, shower and toilet and hair-dryer.

The apartment has electric heaters and a ceiling fan to cool down in summer, as well as a washing machine, ironing and ironing board, and vacuum cleaner.

Linen provided: bed sheets, bath and beach towels, as well as a small cooler to take to the beach or on a day trip, a beach umbrella and mats.

A cot can be provided upon request (no additional charge). The staiway has baby-safety fences at the top and bottom, but young children must be kept under constant supervision on the upper half-floor. Please note that for safety reasons, the bunk bed regulations require that the person sleeping on the top bunk be at least 6 years old.

Further details outdoors:
Les Marines du levant apartment complex has a warden on the premises, a gated parking lot (with one spot assigned foryour vehicule) and nicely lanscaped grounds. It includes tennis courts and “pétanque” bowling areas.

The nice sandy beach of Les Salins, just outside the apartment complex, is maintained by the city of Hyères, equipped with showers and watched for swimmers safety.

A 2mn walk will take you to the charming Provençal village of les Salins, gathered around its fishing harbour, with several good restaurants, grocery stores, souvenir shops, a scuba diving operation, etc.

Conditions

- 180 € deposit required to book, which turns into security deposit at time of arrival, and is fully refundable within 15 days of departure, provided apartment is left clean. For stays over 1 week, deposit is 30% of rental fee.
- House linen provided free of charge (bed sheets, bath and beach towels)
- Young children welcome. There is a steep stairway with safety barriers, and an open half-floor. Cot and high chair provided free of charge. (Please advise if needed.)
- Well behaved pets welcome. 7 € / day extra charge per pet.
- Strictly no smoking inside - smoking allowed on terrace and balcony.

Provence and the Riviera are well known for their sunny climate, mild winters and beautiful scenery.

Les Salins, located on a particularly charming stretch of the Mediterranean coast, is a perfect base to explore the area: only 40km to St-Tropez, 15 km from Toulon.

Or take a day trip to the historic Aix-en-Provence, visit the inner Provence, hike the Grand canyon of the Verdon… Enjoy local cuisine, water sports, bicycling…

The Hyeres / Les Salins area

The area around Hyères has miraculously preserved large unspoiled natural areas. A nature reserve (previously salt marshes) and sandy beaches surround the charming fishing harbour of les Salins.

Boat shuttles leaving from nearby la Londe make the beautiful Iles d’Or or Golden Islands across the sea easily accessible on foot or with your bicycle. Porqueroles, with no car traffic, is perfect for cycling and swimming, while Port-Cros, a pristine National Marine Sanctuary, has wonderful snorkelling and diving spots, and nature walks.

The area offers a wide array of opportunities to water sports enthusiasts:
- Snorkeling and scuba- diving: the area around the Hyeres Islands is famous for its well preserved rocky shores, good visibility, numerous shipwrecks and abundant marine life (see huge curious groupers in Port-Cros). Operating right out of the Port-Pothuau harbour, just 2mn away on foot, the dive operation "Centre Immersion Plongée" offers discovery dives for non certified adults and children over 8 years old, as well as boat dives to all the good sites, including the Port Cros National Marine Park, for certified divers.
- The Almanarre beach is renowned for windsurfing and kite surfing. Small sail boats or power boats can be hired for the day out of several harbours (Hyeres, la Londe...)

There are numerous biking trails in the area, and a 3 km walking trail along the coast all the way to La Londe, or take your bike on the shuttle boat to Porquerolles and spend a day exploring the island.

The residence has tennis courts available at no charge to residents and guests.

The Hyeres Marina has numerous restaurants, souvenir shops and night-life. Around the harbour in les Salins, several restaurants serve excellent local cuisine, or for a more casual meal, try Nanou’s excellent wood-oven pizza, which he prepares in his van every night in season. Provençal markets sell locally grown food and vegetables and specialities. Check out the market at l'Ayguade, just 1km away, on Wednesday mornings, or buy amazingly tasty fruit and vegetable freshly picked from the farm at the road stand on your way to Hyeres.

Hyères-les-Palmiers itself is a very nice palm-tree lined mid-size city, with all services and amenities available.

Toulon lies in a very special location, between its natural sheltered harbour - one of the best in the world - and the Mont Faron moutain at the back, whic hprotects from northerly winds. This stragic position has long made it an important naval base, as well as a fishing and trading harbour. Visit of the bay are easy: boat shuttle tours leave from the main dock on a regular basis, as well as regular shuttles. The Mont Faron can be accessed by road or by cable-car. The view over the bay from the top is spectacular.

The Toulon-Hyères airport, only 5km away, is served by low-cost airlines Ryan Air, with flights to and from the UK (London Stansted year-round, Birmingham and Bristol in season) and Stockholm, Sweden. Domestic flights to Paris-Orly, Strasbourg, and Brest in Brittany. Car rental is available at the airport.

Or come by train: the high-speed TGV serves the station of Toulon, only 5h from Paris.

The Nice-Côte d'Azur airport (2h drive) and Marseilles-Marignane airport (1h drive) are both served by major airlines.

“A great location which we would visit again.” This apartment is part of a development of holiday/weekend homes in a very pleasant area, just a few steps from an excellent beach. The apartment itself worked very well for a couple, although there were bunk beds provided for an extra two guests.Our feeling was that the apartment was best for just two occupants. The kitchen and living area is open plan, while the bedroom is on the first floor. The front balcony offers views of the harbour, while the rear of the property provides fine views across the nature reserve towards the distant hills. Although it would be possible to get by without a car, we found it useful for exploring the wider location, such as visiting Toulon. There are a variety of restaurants nearby.
