The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region
Located in the resort of Hyères which includes the prestigious Giens peninsula, the Porquerolles islands where you can either walk or cycle around the island. To visit the island go to La tour-Fondue at the tip of the Peninsula for the ferry across to the island. Other islands include Port Cros and Ile du Levant. The resort stretches along the coast with sandy beaches. The medieval resort is situated 20 km from Toulon and Le Lavandou. 55 km west of St Tropez. This part of the coast is popular amongst tourists looking for the palm tree lined sandy beaches and cooler, green and wooded regions to explore only just inland.
Almanarre beach is a long stretch of pale sand and the water starts shallow but then drops sharply further along so if you have young children, it is best to check the depth before swimming and building sandcastles.
Provencal markets are held every Saturday mornings on Place Clémenceau.
