BookThe Dalmatia region
Dalmatia is a region on the eastern coast of Adriatic Sea, situated in Croatia. It stretches from the island of Rab in the northwest to the Bay of Kotor in the southeast. The capital city is Split, the second largest city in Croatia (175,140 inhabitants).Split is an important traffic crossroad, and also the largest ferry port on the Croatian Adriatic coast.
The location of today's Split- Dalmatia County, was inhabited early on thanks to its mild climate, fertile soil and numerous springs of potable water. The first villages were founded on the trade paths of the ancient Illyrians and Greeks.
On the coasts the climate is Mediterranean, while further inland it is moderate continental.
Rare are the regions that can be as proud of so many natural varieties. Here you can find both shallow waters and the open sea, wild rapids and peaceful river beds, the most beautiful Mediterranean islands alongside rough cliffs with endemic species in the middle of the open sea, deep lakes and the still unexplored richness of the underground caves.
Almost every city or town has it long history with lot of monuments por example: Split, Trogir,Hvar, Solin...
The Hvar / Sucuraj area
On the east cape of the island of Hvar is located the fishing village Su?uraj.
The history of Sucuraj, which is longer then 2300 years, was created along with Croats by many other nations who once ruled this territory leaving their marks in architecture and culture alike.
Sucuraj has been demolished and rebuilt again and again throughout history; the oldest building is the Franciscan monastery (once Augustan).
The cute inter-connecting in building stone houses with closed streets indicate a specific style of construction conditioned by the constant danger of pirates from the river Neretva.
Today's parish church of St. George by whom the village got its name was built at the end of the 19th century. Interesting is also the baroque church of St. Antony from 1663 as well as the Venetian fort from 1613.
The pleasant climate, abundance of sun and the refreshing breeze of the summer mistral along with several sand beaches and hidden coves, as well as the untouched nature make Sucuraj the place where everyone can find their place to relax. Unavoidable pleasures certainly offer the restaurants with their offer of first class fresh fish and top-quality wines.
In the town is everything you need for peacefull holiday. Except 3 stores (selling general groceries, fruit, veg, meat), several restaurants, caffe bars, ice-shop, newsstand there is post office, infirmary.
