The Red Sea Riviera/Sinai region

Climate:
There are two seasons in Egypt: a mild winter from November to April and a hot summer from May to October. The only differences between the seasons are variations in daytime temperatures and changes in prevailing winds.

Along the Red Sea, temperatures range between a minimum of 14° C in winter and can top 50° C in summer. Precipitation is almost non-existent: only in autumn and spring the odd rainfall that lasts no longer than fifteen minutes helps sustain the rare desert flora and fauna.

History:
Egypt's Red Sea coast runs from the Gulf of Suez to the Sudanese border. Its mineral-rich red mountain ranges inspired the mariners of antiquity to name the sea Mare Rostrum, or the Red Sea.

It is believed Hermits seeking seclusion founded early Christian monasteries here, sharing the wilderness with camel-trading Bedouin tribes. Today, the crags and limestone wadis of the Eastern Desert remain relatively unexplored, home to ibex and gazelle. But the Red Sea itself, dotted with coral reefs, fringed by ancient ports, teeming with underwater life, has a rich maritime history which stretches back to Pharaonic times.

The thermal winds that once sped clippers to the East still bring thousands of migrating birds to the shores of the Red Sea, making it a paradise for bird-watchers. Today, the ancient ports are better known as some of the best diving and fishing resorts in the world.

The Red Sea is a rich and diverse ecosystem. More than 1100 species of fish have been recorded in the Red Sea and around 10% of these are found nowhere else. This also includes around 75 species of deepwater fish.

Hurghada area

Hurghada, known in Egypt as Ghardaga, was at one time just a simple fishing village. But now, with its crystal clear water, untouched reefs and a multitude of ship wrecks, it has become one of the best Egyptian tourist destinations. The original small town centre 'Sekalla' with its bazaars, mosques and lively atmosphere reflects typical Egyptian life.

Further inland lie the Desert Mountains, ideal for desert tours. Most of all Hurghada offers sunshine and relaxation. Hurghada can satisfy the needs of every visitor, from scubadiving to windsurfing to desert safaris. Hurghada is world renowned as a centre for some of the world's best Diving.

The pleasant touristic centre in Hurghada is home to a 4km stretch of top end hotels, shops, cafes, restaurants serving international cuisine and bars, formed purposely for the attraction of the european holiday maker. The area also plays host to Hard Rock Cafe, The Fish House and Little Buddha sushi bar and restaurant.

The nearest Aqua Park is located at the Sindbad Resort directly in front of the complex this is open to the public at a small cost. This resort also boasts its very own submarine to discover the wonderful marine life of the Red Sea, these underwater trips are approximately £20.

The Souk Marina opposite Sekalla located north of the Touristic Centre is within easy reach via taxi, a taxi to this area should not cost any more than a couple of pounds. This area is a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Sekalla which is a stones through away. The relaxed Marina fronted development has been designed to attract tourists to its many upmarket restaurants, bars and nightclubs. This is where you will find the worlds first Hedkandi Beach Bar as well as Papas bar, White Elephant Thai restaurant, Heaven restaurant, The Lodge bar and Pirates Fish & Chips. Ministry of Sound is also nearby.

From the resort you will be able to benefit from many excursions in and around Hurghada. 3 hour Desert Safaris usually cost around £22 these involve the use of quad bikes over the desert for a distance of 30km, camel rides and a visit to the Bedoin Village where you will be offered Shisha and local tea.

For diving excursions I can personally recommend the Twin Dolphin diving Centre in Hurghada based at the Sea Star Beau Rivage hotel. Please visit: www.diving-redsea.com

Other excursions include trips to the Pyramids in Cairo or to The Valley of the Kings including Tutankhamuns tomb in Luxor. For the avid Golfer, Hurghada have two main golf sites unless you venture outside of the resort to El Gouna.

* Building works completing the second phase of the development are continuing and are anticipated to complete the start of 2009. The low rental costs reflect the current situation with regard to construction. I would recommend taking this in to full consideration if you are looking for a holiday which involves a large amount of time to be spent on the balcony or if you cannot sacrifice on the view.

If the apartment will just be used as a base for your holiday, there should not be a direct affect to guests by the ongoing works. Egyptian builders use traditional methods in construction which result in very low noise levels. Window panels are reflective glass, this will ensure privacy to guests. Any further questions please make an enquiry.
