Home description
The Fo’c’stle is a 3-star English Tourist Board-rated picture book 17th century Grade II listed double fronted granite cottage, centrally located in Hugh Town, with harbour views from all windows, fully modernised while retaining all of its original charm. It is opposite the Atlantic slipway leading onto Town Beach and is also 300 yards from Porthcressa beach. It is within a stone’s throw of shops and places to eat, and less than a minute from the quay where the Scillonian berths, and also from where launches leave for trips to the off islands.
The Isles of Scilly are one of the most beautiful and relaxing parts of the United Kingdom, home to less than 2000 people lying 28 miles from Lands End. Five of the islands are inhabited and there are over 100 smaller islands and islets. Each island has its own special charm and character, but all have in common fine sandy beaches, and ever changing views of splendour facing out seawards.
Some of the delights of a Scillonian holiday are the boat trips to off islands, to Bishop’s Rock lighthouse and the Western Isles for seals and birdlife, an evening boat safari to watch the seabirds coming in for the night, landing on one of the smaller islands having it to yourself for the day, hiring bicycles, pony trekking, swimming with the seals, a game of golf, the inter-island gig races on Wednesday and Friday evenings, slide shows and local dramatic society performances, visiting theatre groups from the mainland, walking along paths and trails far from man made sounds are to mention but a few. The Isles of Scilly Tourist Office (www.simplyscilly.com or 01720 424031) provides a wealth of information about the wide-ranging things there are to see and do, guaranteed to meet the interests and needs of all age groups.
