The Brittany / Finistere region
Brittany is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Farnce, renowned for its beautiful scenery and ease of access. There are over 600km of coastline with fabulous sandy beaches, rocky coves, dramatic cliffs, pretty harbours and offshore islands to explore. Places to visit are Carantec, Locqueric and Perros Guerros on the north shore and don't miss the opportunity to take a boat trip to the Ile de Brehat, where cars are forbidden and the beaches are stunning. Dournanez and St Anne Le Palud to the west and Benodet, Fousenant and Carnac to the south coast. Inland there are woodlands and river valleys, and charming historic towns and villages to visit. Morlaix is a large, historic French market town with an impressive viaduct, marina, shops and restaurants. Locronan could be described as a Cotswold village with a French twist - a delightful small town trapped in time and steeped in history. In the 15th and 16th century, Locronan was one of the most advanced and sophisticated towns in France, it being responsible for manufacturing and supplying sail cloth for the French Royal Navy and several others including bucaneers and dare we say pirates...? Enjoy walking round some of the high class bars, shops and restaurants and pay a visit to the beautiful church in the square. Just south of Locronan is the city of Quimper - great for shopping or cruise down the beautiful Odet river. And don’t miss the prehistoric standing stones at Carnac, one of the mysterious wonders of France. Josselin is a medieval town with a beautiful chateau - in fact wherever you travel around Brittany you are sure to find some very impressive chateaux. A tour round one of these makes you feel like you've really expereinced the true France of a bygone age.
