Denby Dale is known as the Pie Village, for a 220 year old tradition of making monster meat pies to celebration national events. (You can still buy normal size pies in the village shops) The whole village has a unique feel due to its range of independently owned specialist shops, from the old-fashioned butcher, to rustic furniture shops, clothes shops, gift wares and tea rooms etc. This location is also a rambler's paradise with an abundance of local way-marked walks.
Within very easy driving distance you will find a huge range of attractions: The National Coal Mining Museum, Cannon Hall Country Park, open farm and adventure play ground, Holmfirth of 'Last of the Summer Wine' fame, Kirklees Light Railway, Pugney's Country Park for a range of Watersports and Sandal Castle, Elsecar Heritage Centre to name but a few. Slightly further afield you can visit The Eureka Children's Museum in Halifax, the historic city of York, Haworth of Bronte Sisters' fame or the National Media Museum in Bradford. The cities of Leeds and Sheffield are also just over 30 minutes away if you fancy some serious shopping! There's simply too much to mention, and we leave lots of information in the cottage so you can make the most of your stay.
