The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region

Huddersfield is ideally placed for visiting major cities of Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield as well as places of historic interest like York and Haworth, yet is encircled by open countryside, and has itself many eating places and an interesting town centre. With its wealth founded on textiles, the old manufacturing mills are being converted into apartments and the former industrial areas redeveloped while the industrial past is celebrated by several museums.
The Huddersfield / Almondbury area
Second only to Bath in its number of Grade II listed buildings, Huddersfield has an interesting past. Its famous Choral Society has a worldwide reputation and the town maintains its strong musical traditions. Many of the villages have individual festivals, the Folk Festival in Holmfirth, Marsden's Jazz Festival and the internationally renowned Contemporary Music Festival in Huddersfield. More details available on the Kirklees website : www.visitkirklees.com.
The area was once the home of the Brigantes tribe, and Castle Hill, which rises behind the cottages, is the site of an Iron Age fort and a wonderful vantage point from which to view Huddersfield and the tributary valleys.
