Enquire nowThe Central Thailand / Bangkok / Prachuab Khiri Khan region
Hua Hin is located in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, which is also the name of the provincial capital 90km sout of Hua Hin. It connects with the South of Thailand and possesses interesting tourist attractions such as beaches, islands, forests and mountains. The Province includes the narrowest part - 13 km Khra Isthmus to the Burmese border - of Thailand.
The Province includes Thailand's first marine national Park, the Khao Sam Roi Yot. It was probably the site where King Mongkut in August 1868 took European guests to observe a total solar eclipse. As the king was very interested in astronomy he had calculated the date and location of the eclipse himself. Unfortunately, he then contracted malaria and died shortly later. (Typical of Thailand perhaps, the Park also has several shrimp farms.) The National Park comprises high and steep limestone mountains by the beach and a wet mud plains as well as limestone islets lined up near the shore, where birds reside in November and February. It was named national park in June, 1966. There are many attractions within the park, namely Khao Daeng View Point, Tham Sai, Thung Sam Rot and Hat Laem Sala.
Pran Buri Forest Park has a white sandy beach, shady with a 1-kilometre line of pine trees on the east of the Park. As the scenery there are the islands of Ko Singto, Khao Takiap and Khao Tao. This forest is originally a royal project under the patronage of Queen Sirikit.
Prachuap Khiri Khan in fact is more of a holiday destination with the local Thais than foreigners with many Bangkokians purchasing condominiums there. The fact that local people find it attractive we take as a guarantee of high quality; this rule seems to apply everywhere in the world!
Also owner of this condo came over with family some 50 years ago; their beach house in central Hua Hin has long ago been sold; run down but intact!
The Hua Hin area
Thailand's royal family set this location on the map as the original seashore destination. The long white sandy beaches are clean and pretty, much more so than Pattaya's. Besides sunbathing snorkeling and swimming, visitors can also enjoy golf, spas, caves, peaks, waterfalls, shops, seafood and nearby national parks. The town is warm and friendly making it pleasant for families and couples. A boat connects to opposite Pattaya whenever the tourist wants "more dynamic" night life.
Hua Hin is good for climbing, hiking, jogging, tennis, horse riding, etc. It has amusement park, various historical sites, some night clubs, museum, fishing attractions, golf courses (one is walking distance of 20 minutes only: www.golfholidayshuahin.com/seapine-golfcourse.html), jets ski and other water sports. Every June there is a Jazz Festival.
At Khao Takieb, there are a number of seafood restaurants here ranging from small Thai style places to large expensive resorts. You may review them at www.huahinforum.com. You can get great views from the top of the temple at Khao Takiab, on a clear day you can see as all the way down Hua Hin beach and as far as Cha-am, across the Provincial border (before Hua Hin). From Khao Takieb you can take a boat trip to Koh Singto (Lion Island).
For local info: Khao Takieb www.khaotakiab.com
Wat Khao Krailas and Wat Khao Lanton are two other attractions above the beach level, within one and two kilometres from the Condo, Baan Plai Haad-kao. These altitudes make Khao Takieb area a favourite for joggers. Khao Krailas can be reached from the end of Soi 12 of Takieb Road and also from the end of the nearby (Khao Takieb) road diversion.

This apartment was perfect for a relaxing holiday. It was well equipped and had lovely sea views. The infinity pool is right on the beach front and was well maintained. The location is great, quieter than being in the centre of Hua Hin but near enough to be able to get to for the busy markets and restaurants. We often walked shoreline one way and got the bus back. There are good restaurants nearby if you don't want to go to Hua Hin & we would recommend Madame Green's which was a few metres up the beach from the apartment block. The complex was very near Kao Takib with the fantastic giant golden Buddha statue visible from the pool. We hired a scooter from the nearby Mr Ken's which was in good order and cheap allowing us to explore slightly further afield. The only downside to the apartment was that it is so new the whole complex isn't finished and there was interior work going on in some apartments. This included fitting kitchens and painting some apartments whilst we were there although this wasn't particularly intrusive. Because many apartments are incomplete there were very few guests staying there and we mostly had the complex to ourselves. This meant that we effectively had a private infinity pool to ourselves and we only shared the pool with another couple on one day. We loved the tranquility and break from our busy lives but it may not suit everyone. We didn't use the TV but noticed that it only had Thai satellite TV which again may not suit everyone. We didn't go to watch TV so not a problem for us. I would definitely recommend this apartment. |
