Our apartment is perfectly located in the heart of the medoc region of France, an area that boasts a sense of tranquality and calm as well as rolling vinyards, beautiful chateaux, pine forests and of course one of France's largest Freshwater lakes.
The apartment is directly on the lake with views at dawn and sunset to die for. The very large sunny balcony faces both parts of the lake and children's island and the local beach is literally a stone's throw away.
The apartment has been equiped as a family holiday residence and as such additional equipment such as games, kitchen equipment etc are in abundence. If surfing or boogie boarding takes your fancy, the atlantic coast is a mere 6km away which can be easily accessed by either car or by cycle paths through the heavenly pine forests. The Aquitaine region
The scenery around the Medoc is extremely diverse. The Medoc is famous for its vineyards and breathtaking Chateaux which are literally around every corner, however head towards Bordeaux and the scenery is quite different by contrast. Having undergone an enormous regeneration project not long ago, Bordeaux offers contemporary dining, designer shops and beautiful historic buildings.
Hourtin itself is a haven for watersport enthusiasts and those that enjoy peace and tranquility as well as the other beaches and resorts around the lake. Hourtin, a nature in three dimensions as the guide books describe it.
Within one minute's walk from the apartment you will arrive at the white sandy beach on the lake of Hourtin. A wonderfully safe beach for children with a shallow depth ideal for paddling, swimming and canoeing. Isle D'enfants (children's island) is across a small bridge again within a minute's walk where an enormous fort and playground is a haven for children to explore whilst the surrounding grounds are perfect for picnicing. The port or Marina at Hourtin are just around the corner and offer a wide variety of restaurants and bars, a bakery and a tabac however, the town of Hourtin is about a mile away with further amenties still.
For watersport enthusiasts, windsurfing, powerboating, kite surfing, sailing etc can be enjoyed on the lake at Hourtin and other nearby lake villages. Horse riding, tennis and crazy golf can all be enjoyed in the port. Weekly markets, bands, beach acitivities amongst other things are advertised through the tourist information centre which is located in the port.

"A brilliant holiday"
We love this area of France, especially the miles of clean beaches which are great for surfing. We were very impressed with the communication between the owner and ourselves. The property was very clean and there was every thing you needed for a great holiday. Even our 17 year old son enjoyed it and there was no television! The weather was wonderful and it was very convenient to have a safe, beautiful lake so near to us, which would be suitable for small children. We loved it all. My daughter said it was the best holiday she had had!

I stayed in this beautiful apartment in June 2012, I had the most wonderful trip with my friend and both our 8 year old sons. The flat is situated in an amazing tranquil spot, and it has a fantasctic balcony overlooking the lake. The flat is decorated lovely and has everything you need especially the welcoming bottle of red local wine. We had plenty of space for 2 adult and 2 children. There is a lovely beach on the lake where we spent many hours watching the children play in the water it was very relaxing, we hardly saw another person. There is also a great children play park here as well. If you want to explore a bit further the main beach is about 10 mins drive away, we took the kids for surf lessons here and had a fantastic day, the kids had such a good day that we booked to go back for anothers day surfing. Also you must go to Bordeaux for the day it's about 30 mins drive but well worth a visit, lovely shops and restaurants and a great little train to take you around. All in all we had great time, great for kids and adults alike and we can't wait to go back.
