About the home

Situated on the River Bure in the picturesque village of Horning on the Norfolk Broads. Relax and watch the world go by, do some fishing and boating, or explore the Norfolk coast with its beautiful unspoilt beaches and wildlife.

Shops, pubs and restaurants all within a 5 minute walk. There is parking for 2 cars right outside the door with no walking or steps required to access the cottage.

Wi-fi broadband Internet and landline calls are included.

Guests are also welcome to use 'Dodgem' - our electric 5 man day boat. Larger more powerful boats can be hired locally at preferential rates from one of the local boat hire yards.

Further details indoors:
The lounge/diner is light and sunny and is equipped with all home comforts including Freeview TV / DVD Player / CD Player and iPod docking station. The cottage now offers free wi-fi broadband internet connection and telephone.

The dining area has a table and six chairs and has French doors opening out onto the wonderful riverside garden with garden furniture.

The modern galley-style fitted kitchen has granite worktops, large range-type gas cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine/dryer.

One double bedroom and the family bathroom with bath, shower over bath, basin and WC are located downstairs, making the cottage most suitable for elderly visitors.

Upstairs is a further double bedroom with washbasin, en-suite WC and TV and one twin bedroom with washbasin and TV. All 3 bedrooms have river views.

Gas central heating is included. Bed linen is also included, but please bring your own towels.

Directly on the river with fishing from the garden in season. Please note: small children must be closely supervised at all times. Parking for 2 cars.

The East Anglia / Norfolk region

The Norfolk Broads are England's largest stretch of wetlands, and are a unique combination of broads or shallow lakes, rivers and dykes which can be found in the area bounded by Norwich, Stalham, Lowestoft and Beccles.

Famous for the magnificent boating they afford, with over 125 miles of navigable waterways, they also play host to a wide variety of plants, animals, insects and birds.

The Horning area

Horning, located on the River Bure, is considered the most picturesque of all the Broadland villages, In the village there are several pubs and restaurants offering a wide range of menus and prices. Boat hire is available nearby, and there is also a leisure centre with small swimming pool, jacuzzi and fitness centre close by.

Within 5 minutes walk of the cottage there is a newsagents, butchers, greengrocers, post office and delicatessen. Good shopping can also be found in Wroxham and Norwich, which also has all the usual facilities you would expect in this fine cathedral city.

There are good sandy beaches about 15 minutes drive. For the children there are many theme parks in the area, and Great Yarmouth is famous for its funfair and Sea Life Centre. For the more active holidaymaker, there is cycle and canoe hire available nearby.

There are many stately homes, gardens and wildlife centres to visit. The North Norfolk coastal towns of Sheringham and Cromer and the wild coastline around Blakeney, famous for its seal watching, are about 30 minutes drive away.

Boy's Own Cottage can be found in the pretty village of Horning between Norwich (11 miles) and Gt. Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast (17 miles).

By Road:
By Road from London journey time is approximately 2-3 hours. Exit the M25 London Orbital at Junction 27 and take the M11 North towards Cambridge. Exit the M11 at junction 9 and take the A11 North (East) towards Norwich and the Norfolk Broads. For Sat Nav users, the postcode of the cottage is NR12 8AA.

Local Directions:
From the outer Norwich ring road follow the signs towards Wroxham (A1151) to leave on the Sprowston Road. Follow the A1151 for approximately 8 miles, passing through Wroxham until 2 mini roundabouts. At the second mini roundabout take a right turn onto the A1062 signposted Potter Heigham, Horning, Ludham. Continue for approximately 2 miles. At the Horning crossroads, turn right into Horning Village Lower Street. The village is about 1 mile long, Boy's Own Cottage can be found in the centre of the village in a turning on the right hand side just before the New Inn pub.
