Norfolk is renowned for its tranquillity, attracting birdwatchers and those seeking solitude. Some of the villages in Suffolk have changed little since the area was a medieval trade centre, adding to the picture book feel to the landscape.
The Norfolk Broads are an expansive area of navigable waterways, lakes, marshes and nature reserves.
The Horning area
Take a leisurely stroll to the centre of the village and you will find a newsagent, post office, general stores, butchers, delicatessen, Chinese takeaway and several restaurants. The village has three pubs, all serving food and all with riverside gardens its very own marina with heated indoor swimming pool and sauna.
Horning is on the River Bure, 2 miles drive from Wroxham, with Roys of Wroxham being "the largest village store in the world!" It's just 10 miles away from the City of Norwich and 15 miles from Great Yarmouth and all the hustle and bustle of this lively seaside town. A short 20 minute drive from Horning will find you in the quieter location of Sea Palling with its beautiful sandy beaches.
Bewilderwood the Treehouse Adventure Park is a short drive away and Wroxham Barns, with its craft shops, funfair and petting zoo make for a great day out for all the family.

We have been staying at Heron Cottage for 7 years - in fact in 2012 we visited twice! 1 week in June and then again for New Year's Eve. This really is a wonderful place to stay any time of year. Everything about the cottage is 5 star perfect and add the boat to your holiday and it becomes 5 star plus. The owners Gail and Ken always make you very welcome and take meticulous care in ensuring every aspect of your holiday and cottage surroundings are the best you could ever want. We love the closeness of the water with the wildlife and fishing, the village centre and a great fish restaurant just a short walk away. We find Heron Cottage truly heaven on earth - just wind down, chill out and relax. |
