The impressive City of Lincoln, just 25 miles away, is steeped in 2,000 years of history with evidence of both Roman and Medieval periods as well as notable architecture left by the Tudors and Georgians. One of Europe's finest cathedrals is in Lincoln and sits on part of the site of a 1st century Roman fortress high on the hill. Close by is the Norman Castle built by William the Conqueror on the site of the former Roman fortress, which dates from 1068. Walk along the walls of the Castle and enjoy the wonderful views across this handsome City.
Keen golfers will want to enjoy playing some of the nearby golf courses, particularly the two magnificent courses at Woodhall Spa, the home of English golf, just 10 miles away. The Hotchkin Course is consistently rated among the world's finest heathland golf experiences and is ranked 25th in Golf World magazine's World Top 100 Golf Courses.
Green Court Holiday Cottages, just 3 miles northeast of Horncastle, are peacefully located in the tranquil village of Fulletby, famous for being the birthplace of Henry Winn, prolific writer and poet. Here the three cottages provide comfortable single storey accommodation for up to five guests. Being situated in private grounds and with a secluded courtyard, the cottages are ideal for walkers as the Viking Way long distance walking path passes the site with many other footpaths close by.
The Lincolnshire Wolds, the highest point in eastern England between Yorkshire and Kent, is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here, the fertile and rolling chalk hills have been shaped by agriculture for centuries. The Wolds market towns of nearby Horncastle, with some 20 antique shops, as well as Alford, Louth and Spilsby offer excellent starting and stopping-off places when exploring the area.
