Home description
Come and relax in the beautiful Blackdown Hills at Beech Cottage, a converted barn fitted out to a high standard. Located in an idyllic setting yet easily accessible, being only 5 miles from the historic market town of Honiton, renowned for the many antique shops, good traditional butchers who source their meat from local farmers, bakers and many other independent shops. The Jurassic Coast is not far away either, the seaside villages of Beer and Branscombe are only a 35 minute drive away and the Regency town of Sidmouth just 30 minutes by car. The village of Dunkeswell is a 10 minute walk away with a well stocked Spar, pub, hairdresser and local doctor's surgery. The cottage has a patio area, the perfect environment for a relaxing holiday. If you are more energetic guests have the use of a full size hard tennis court on the property.
The delightful stone cottage is equipped to a high standard with one double and one twin bedroom both of which have a cosy feel but are generous sized bedrooms.

The West Country / Devon region
On the Devon/ Somerset border so an ideal cottage from which to explore the area.
The Jurassic coast is only a half hour drive away with the villages of Beer and Branscombe and the pretty regency town of Sidmouth with its Esplanade and Lyme Regis.
The Catherdral city of Exeter is only 23 miles distance, there are regular rail journeys from Honiton should you wish to keep car use to a minimum. The city is well worth a day visit, there are many bars and restaurants set around the beautiful Cathedral, there is a museum with exhibits of Exeter silver, the Northcott Theatre and several other arts establishments and a new shopping area in the heart of the city.
Honiton area
The cottage is located in an idyllic location set in the heart of the countryside yet easily accessible, being only 4 miles from the historic market town of Honiton, renowned for the many antique shops, good traditional butchers who source their meat from local farmers, bakers and many other independent shops.
There are many historic houses and National Trust properties to visit locally, Killerton House, Knightshayes Court near Tiverton, Shute Barton at Axminster, the Old Bakery and Forge at Branscombe.
The village of Dunkeswell is a 10 minute walk away with a well stocked Spar, pub, hairdresser and local docor's surgery.
There is a network of footpaths in the area, the nearest being 2 minutes walk from the cottage giving the visitor ample opportunity to experience the wonderful scenery of the Blackdown Hills. The nearest restaurant is just a short walk away 300 yds down the lane at Lakeview Manor. There are several pubs within easy reach of the cottage, The Royal Oak at Dunkeswell (1 mile), the Catherine Wheel at Hemyock (5 miles), The Sidmouth Arms at Upottery (5.6 miles), the Culm Valley Inn in Culmstock (6.5 miles), with their excellent cuisine and real ales, The New Inn at Clayhidon (7 miles) the Holman Clavel at Culmhead (7 miles) wonderful beers and food too, and the Merry Harriers at Culmhead (11 miles). As you can see if you do not want to cook you could eat out at a different pub every night!
The Blackdown Hills is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, ideal for walking.
Dunkeswell has a flying and parachute club.
Gliding is available at the Devon and Somerset Gliding Club at Broadhembury approx 4 miles distant.
If you are interested in horses the Blackdown Hills Cross Country Course is on only 5 minutes drive.
For the motor enthusiast,there is carting at Dunkeswell and Stock Car racing and rally events are held at Smeatharpe, 4 miles distant and Wiscombe Hill Climb which is approximately 12 miles distant.
How to get there
From Exeter take the A30 towards Honiton, we are just over 5 miles from the main road.
From London take the A303 towards the westcountry, we are just over 5 miles from the A30 London to Exeter road.
Travelling from the north take the M5 south and leave the motorway at junction 26, we are just over 9 miles across country from there.

Further details indoors: The well equipped kitchen /diner contains a Microwave, hob and oven, built in fridge/freezer and a dishwasher. From the kitchen leads into a good sized beamed sitting room and a separate WC with a washing machine and tumble dryer. The sitting room is equipped with Freeview TV, DVD and CD player with access through French windows to a lit patio area. An open tread wooden staircase leads upstairs, where all areas have wooden floorboards, to two bedrooms, one large twin and one double each equipped with an IPod clock radio and hairdryer, and a separate bathroom with bath, WC and separate shower.
Egyptian cotton bedlinen, luxury bathsheets and beach towels provided.
Further details outdoors: Private lit patio area exclusively for Beech cottage guests where you can sit and relax around a table and chairs during the day or evening, ideal for a relaxing coffee or BBQ with a chimnea in the evening. Use of hard tennis court on the property.
