We spent 5 days, investigating Honfleur and further afield to Trouville & Deauville, which was a short drive away. It was lovely to return to the loft appartment with all its amenities and... more |

My partner and I decided to book this holiday as something a little bit different from the usual package deal we embark on. The apartment was great value for money considering we went in school holidays (my partner is a teacher) and more than we could have asked for in terms of charm and location. The apartment was well equipped with all the essentials and the owner is very communicative, so if you want to know if there are toilet roll holders/hairdryers etc, its worth emailing for a breakdown of what's included to avoid disappointment of this is key to your stay. The weather was poor while we were there, but this encouraged us to be more adventurous with planning our days out - we went to Rouen, Bayeux, Trouville,Dday landing beaches and other beautiful local villages. The beach in the rain was gorgeous - we took our tent and had a picnic and a great walk to blow to cobwebs away. Honfleur itself is stunning with endless things to see and do, we saw live jazz, rock and soul bands, visited the galleries and enjoyed the local seafood and of course the wine. The close proximity to the town meant that we could easily pop back to the apartment - although i'd recommend taking a torch if after dark. Before you do come here, it's worth planning what you might like to do as there really is so much to choose from, you can head to Paris for a day trip very easily from here too. If you're not an adventurer, the apartment itself is a cozy location to enjoy on a chilly evening - DVDs are provided which are great, and there are good facilities for cooking local food from the supermarket down the road. All in all, a great week and I will definitely be returning. |

This "picturesque loft apartment" turned out to be a rather dank attic atop dark, narrow and slightly dilapidated stairways leading from a sunless courtyard. It helps to be slim and agile if you're staying here. Once inside, it helps to be short. We had imagined a "loft" might be...you know...lofty, but except in the central landing headroom is limited. Painted (with evident haste) in white and pastel shades, the attic is light and modern. Airy, too, with the windows opened to clear the lingering smell of...burning rubber? drains? we couldn't agree on this point. A through draft worked wonders, though it made the doors slam until we worked out a system of rugs and items of furniture to hold them. Fortunately we had fine weather all week. The fine weather also helped to dry hair in the apparent absence of a hair dryer. (The bathroom window is the sunny one, as the living room looks north and the kitchen is too cramped.) Lacking a shower curtain, too, the bathroom did tend to flood a little. We were grateful for the washing machine, though. Another item found lacking was a toilet roll holder, but this is perhaps understandable as the toilet is so tiny that there is probably no room to mount one where it would not risk injury to those entering and leaving. We found the bedroom quite adequate, with masses of hangers despite very limited wardrobe space. Occasional noise from the street disturbed us at night. In the kitchen we found everything we needed. The living room windows afford glimpses of the industrial outskirts of Le Havre on the far bank of the Seine. (From the bus stop up the street there is a fine view of the spectacular Pont de Normandie, if that is more your thing.) With no proper settees, only futons, sitting for long periods was uncomfortable. Honfleur was quieter than we have known it before. Some of the restaurants off the main streets were doing no business at all. We found there was little to do, and with only basic French TV channels and some old DVDs provided we were glad to have brought our own entertainment. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. There were no big hassles and we had some nice days at the beach. But we enjoyed Honfleur more when it was thriving and we stayed slightly out of town, where we could look forward to relaxing after the short walk back instead of looking forward only to futons after climbing the stairs. Response: First of all, I am glad that you had an overall enjoyable stay in Honfleur, although I am a bit disappointed with your review of our loft and feel the need to reply accordingly. The access is quite typical of many converted houses in Honfleur. The loft is bright and airy and there is no problem with headroom in any room. We could find no evidence of any smell referred to in the review, which had been cleaned the morning of your arrival. We chose the paint colours to complement the style of the loft and, as other reviews have stated, there are nice views over Honfleur. In our advert, we do not offer a hairdryer, however we will take note of that. With regard to the shower curtain, there is a glass panel, which we feel is more hygenic than a curtain. With regard to the wardrobe space, we feel it is more than adequate for the size of the apartment. We will always take guest reviews seriously, however we do feel that this review is conflicting with other reviews and previous guests' comments about the Loft Apartment. Some guests prefer the hustle and bustle in the summer and others prefer the quieter months. |
