The Honfleur area
Honfleur lies at the foot of the Cote de Grace hill overlooking the wide waters of the Seine estuary. Bathed in the soft light of the northern sea, it is the most picturesque of ports and has appealed to great painters over the centuries, including Boudin and the Impressionists and remains today a haunt for painters and artists, with its old world charm and atmosphere.
Honfleur is just a 20 minute drive from the channel port of Le Havre over the magnificent Pont de Normandie and 50 minutes from Caen. Honfleur is steeped in history and boasts a busy all year round cultural calendar, myriad restaurants, markets, specialist shops, and beach, making it an ideal holiday location.

We stayed in this apartment during half term. Easy drive from Calais and very easy to find. Managed to park in the square to unload luggage and free car park a very short walk away. Supermarket short walk for supplies. You walk up three floors of tight stairs and open the door to a surprising spacious apartment. Two rooms on first floor with open plan lounge and kitchen. On next floor another room with and bathroom. Everything you need for a short stay or a week or two. What made our stay magical was the outstanding views of the Honfleur harbour. I could just stand at the window and watch for hours. People watching and photographers dream. Lots of advice in visitors book. The town is friendly and everywhere we ate outstanding. There is a market two times a week - farmers market and then a traditional saturday market. Fine fine food. Pros: Lovely views, plenty of space, lots provided to make stay comfortable. Separate sleeping areas for families. Perfect location in town and not noisy. Food glorious food everywhere! Cons: A bit of restricted head height but it really gave the apartment character. Felt like a typical Paris apartment. Stairs could be an issue if you are not fit and healthy. Take your own pillows, pillows are small. |
