Cherry Tree Cottages
About the home
The cottages are situated a few moments walk away from the banks of the Seine, where the river widens out to embrace the sea and are set in the village of Berville sur Mer which is close to the historic town of Honfleur, considered by many to be the Jewel of Normandy.
Set amongst three and a half acres of orchards and landscaped gardens, they provide a haven of peace and tranquillity within an area of historic interest, stunning scenery and rolling farmland.

The cottages are floored throughout with Maple style plank flooring, sealed and polished. As well as being stylish and sophisticated, these floors are ideal for easy maintenance holiday wear.

The Normandy / Calvados region

You are never far away from good food in France and there are Michelin Star restaurants in the village of Conteville, which is less than ten minutes away and in the town of Beuzeville which is less than twenty minutes.
You can visit the Park naturel regional de Brotonne, half an hour away, or take the winding riverside road to the Abbeys at St Wandrill and Jumieges. The village of Saumone du Roc and its impressive views of the Seine in both directions is a short drive away.
Golfers will be pleased to note that there are five golf courses nearby with St Gatien being only half an hour away, and for the cheese lovers you can always treat yourself to some Pont Leveque from a local shop, or from the town itself which is nearby.
The ancient port town of Honfleur houses some of the finest galleries, antique shops and restaurants supported by people who are friendly and welcoming.
It is the most outstanding preserved port in the area. The vieux basin in the centre of town is still a haven for yachtsmen, ocean going and river cruising alike. Its sea bound entrance is through the swing bridge governed by the Lieutenance, the home of the Kings Lieutenant dating from 1606.
The Honfleur / Berville sur Mer area
Only twenty-five minutes from the port of Le Havre and just over an hour from Dieppe is the village of Berville sur Mer. Berville is reputed to have once been part of the estate owned by William the Conquerors mother, opposite the cottages is the Church of St. Melain dating back to the 13th Century.
The village is beautifully kept and villagers young and old offer a warm and friendly welcome.
Within five minutes walk there is a very friendly village sthop and bar.
Walking through the forests and countryside along many of the pathways that have been in use for hundreds of years, cycling, fishing on the River Risle, or ambling along the Esplanade to the town of Honfleur for a glass or two of local cider or some of the multitude of wines on offer are favourite pursuits in the area.
The beautiful towns of Deauville and Trouville with their spotlessly clean sandy beaches are only short drive away through unspoilt countryside.
Local towns of Pont Audemer and Beuzeville provide the opportunity to visit typically French markets with their fine section of fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, bread and wines as well as the sites and sounds of market day.
A visit to the Monet gardens is always worthwile to see the famous "Lilly Pond" as is the magnificent basilica of St Theresa at Liseaux.
The historic and moving sites of the D-Day landings are only a short drive away, as are many other historical places and museums including the Bayeaux Tapistry and the medieval castle in Caen.

Mom Dad and 2 Tweens North Carolina, USA stayed June 2010
Our family of four stayed here for a week in June. The apartment was clean and spacious, the hosts were very helpful and the location was great for exploring the area, including Honfleur, D-day sites, Bayeux tapestry and Etretat. A car is essential, as this is a rural setting.
Mark & Betsy, WA USA stayed June 2010
Visiting from the US with our two young adult daughters, we were looking for a base from which to explore Normandy. Cherry Tree Cottages was the perfect location. It was only 10 minutes to Honfleur with groceries, dining, and shops. The easy access to the motorway made sightseeing trips to Rouen, Mont St Michel, the Bayeaux tapestry, Caen, all very easy.
As it turned out, the cottages were even more charming in person than they appeared on the website. Clean, well equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture and beds, plenty of space. Des and Sheila couldn’t have been better hosts. They even had everyone over to watch the England/US world cup soccer match. And we thoroughly enjoyed all the other guests. It was a perfect quiet country retreat and we hated to leave it for our stay in Paris.

We had a great family holiday at Cherry Tree Cottages. The location was fantastic for the local attractions and amenities.
The children happily played outside in the lovely gardens, in fact we struggled to get them in as they loved the open space. Des and Sheila are very welcoming and very approachable if you need assistance or guidance.
The location is very peaceful and relaxing and we would definitely take the family again.
I would recommend Cherry Tree cottages to all.
Zentrale Lage zur Erkundung der Normandie
anwemo Karsbach stayed: May 2011
