The Normandy region
Calvados has beautifully lush green countryside. It is famous for its cider, seafood and calvados brandy. Honfleur is one of the harbour towns situated on the Cote de Fleurie. For beautiful beaches, then Deauville is just a 25 minute drive away.
Deauville is also the place to go for designer shops, horse racing events, hydrotherapy/spa centres, casinos, shows and the September film festival. There are also 10 golf courses around the Deauville area, 4 being located within 30 minutes of the house.
Further along the coast are a variety of other pretty beaches and harbour towns. Inland from the coast, there are many small towns nearby including Pont L'eveque, Liverot and Pont Audamer (The venice of the North).
Rouen with its wonderful cathedral is 50 minutes drive East and Monet's garden about 1 hour South-east.
The D-Day beaches are a short drive away - the nearest being just west of Deauville. There is also a great D-Day Museum in Caen (1 hours drive). For those wanting to go further a field you can drive to Paris in 1 hour 45 minutes.
Honfleur is a charming harbour town, with plenty of restaurants, shops, cafes and art galleries. Honfleur has an interesting Maritime museum and an impressive array of architecture (buildings, churches, etc). The public gardens, with outside swimming pool is also very pretty.
Just down the coast is the famous duet of towns Trouville and Deauville with their glamorous shops, casinos and sandy beach.
Conteville is a lovely little village on the outskirts of Honfleur. It has a small selection of shops, including bakers, butchers, mini-supermarket, hairdresser and post office. There is also a creperie, tabac and a Michelin star restaurant for those evenings when you want to stroll out rather than drive.
In and around Honfleur you will find many public tennis courts, horse riding stables, sea fishing and water sports.

"Nice house, pretty location but fixtures and fittings very tired."
Warnings first. We found a couple of the beds unusable - mattress springs poking you in the back-and many items tired and needing replacement. We also doubt whether the house had been cleaned before… More
We can only apologise for your below par experience during your stay in August 2011. Our changeover company had, unbeknown to us, all but ceased trading and had definitely stopped their cleaning checks and supervision. We now have a new company in place, who are extremely professional and thorough. The grass is cut weekly, however, does grow quickly during the summer months. I have slept in all but one of the beds and not had any issues with any mattresses - I'm sorry they weren't appropriate for your comfort. We will review them all again for the 2012 season.
