The North Wales region
Situated on Halkyn Common which is triple SI listed. Ideally situated for privacy. Walking, fishing, bike riding, horse riding etc all in the immediate area but also only 4 miles from the vibrant market town of Mold with its own Theatre restaurants etc,and just 4 miles from the pilgrimage town of Holywell with Saint Winefrides Well and monastery's at Pantasaph.
Very central for exploring all the castles of North Wales and 15 minutes from the nearest beach.
Rhes y Cae is a quiet, rural village, with a traditional village pub and primary school, located in an SSSI area (Site of Special Scientific Interest) on the slopes of Halkyn Mountain, also a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The whole area is renowned for its wonderful panoramic views, with the Clwydian Hills and Offa's Dyke Pathway close by, offering an abundance of scenic walks, cycling and mountain bike trails, while there are also several golf courses nearby. Loggerheads Country Park with its visitor centre offers the opportunity for glimpsing local wildlife, whilst walking along the Leete Pathway on the banks of the River Alyn. The nearby small town of Holywell - the Lourdes of Wales - takes its name from a well surrounded by a chapel, which has been a site of pilgrimage since 660.
Historic Chester, within easy driving distance, offers ample opportunities for sightseeing and shopping on the famous “Rows” and its very popular race course, city cathedral and half timber framed houses. While many coastal resorts including Conwy, Cowyn Bay and Llandudno with its beach and pier, are easily accessible. Portmeirion is just an hours drive away, the beautiful Italian village where 'The Prisoner' was filmed.
Rhes y Cae is a perfect base for exploring the whole of North Wales, the Snowdonia National Park and beyond.
Mold has a proud history dating back to prehistoric times. Archaeological finds include the famous Bronze Age Mold Cape and Iron Age hill forts, showing that the area has been inhabited for over 3,000 years. The existing town of Mold was established as a stronghold in Norman times and the remains of the Norman 'Motte and Bailey' castle can still be seen at the top of Bailey Hill, the strategically strong site that overlooks the Alyn Valley. Today it is a public park where you can enjoy the fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.
Come and see the varied and interesting architecture in and around Mold with lasting examples of Tudor and Stuart ornamentation and evidence of how the industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th Centuries contributed to the growth of the town. To protect Mold's rich heritage there is now a conservation area where you will find modern shops and cafés nestled in and around the older style buildings that give the town its unique blend of traditional and contemporary.
The town centre is busy with activity during the traditional Wednesday and Saturday street markets which have been held since 1808. The livestock market is held adjacent to the town centre on Monday and Friday each week. On the first Saturday of each month Mold Farmers' Market sells fresh local produce direct to customers from St. Mary`s Church Hall. During your visit you can take a break from exploring the mix of markets, individual boutiques and high street shops in the peaceful haven of the Town Park, which is an idyllic place for a picnic.

"Lovely Beech Cottage in Welsh countryside!"
Our family (2 adults and 4 children) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Beech Cottage. Set in the scenic Welsh countryside, yet close enough to civilisation too! We found the cottage very comfortable; well appointed and in peaceful surroundings. Would highly recommend to others!
