Nuthatch Cottage
About the home
Nuthatch Cottage is part of a 300 year old cob barn and it is named after the pair of nuthatches which breed in the garden every year and can be seen on the bird table on the private terrace. The cottage can sleep two people and there is room in the double bedroom for a cot or z-bed too. The upside down layout means that the bedoorm and bathroom are downstairs. Upstairs is an open-plan sitting/dining room and kitchen. There is a flat screen TV, DVD, CD player and lots of books, guest information and games. The French doors open from the lounge/dining room onto a private terrace with the south-facing gardens and tennis court beyond. The cottage is centrally heating in the cooler months making it cosy all year round. There is private off-road parking right outside the cottage. There is a flower-filled courtyard and parking right outside. 200 metres away is our own mini nature reserve, a 6 acre meadow and 2 lakes, one for fishing. Children and pets are welcome.
This is a great location for families/groups who love the great outdoors. As well as our own facilities (mentioned above), the best of the South West’s beaches are within 10 miles. The coast path, running the entire way around the south west peninsula is within 7 miles and offers spectacular walking. The Tamar Lakes are 3 miles away with kayaking, wind surfing and bird watching. The Tarka Trail, an off-road cycle track, is 7 miles away. We can organise clay pigeon shooting and archery, all in the area.
The village of Bradworthy is less than half a mile away and has a pub (child and dog friendly) serving food everyday, a tea rooms and several shops. If you want a bit of spoiling, we offer a hearty cooked breakfast in the mornings by arrangement.

Further details indoors:
Nuthatch Cottage is part of Lake House Cottages and B&B, one of the oldest buildings in the village of Bradworthy. In previous years it has been a pub and also one of the main farmhouses in the area. It is surrounded by rolling Devon countryside with flower-filled hedgerows. The village is small and friendly and guests are made very welcome at the local inn.
All four of our cottages have lots of information in them regarding the area and what is available. We have included lots of walk suggestions and maps too, plus games and books. Places to visit nearby include Exmoor and Dartmoor, Clovelly, Padstow, Tintagel, Port Isaac, Boscastle, Bude and Okehampton. There are castles and historic houses too, plus many gardens, some of national importance such as RHS Rosemoor. We specialise in walking holidays and can assist with transport to and from the coast path if required. There are three quality adventure/animal parks in the area: Atlantis, The Milky Way and The Big Sheep.
Further details outdoors:
Lots of furniture available for guests outside to enjoy the south-facing gardens. There is also a BBQ for guest use and all the cottages have their own tennis racquets for the (hard) tennis court. In the nearby meadow there is a log cabin with tea and coffee making facilities. There is another BBQ here and lots more picnic tables, benches and deck chairs. It is an idyllic spot which is utterly peaceful. Fishing is available free of charge to guests in the lower lake.

All bed linens are supplied and towels for guests from abroad. There are no extra charges for dogs, fishing, or any of the other facilities available on site. Guests tell us we have thought of everything. The most important thing to us is that you have a great holiday!

BookThe West Country / Devon region
Lake House Cottages and B&B are in North Devon, but lie just 3 miles from the Cornwall border. The whole of the North Devon/West Cornwall coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as a World Biosphere Reserve. The coastline is spectacular with high cliffs and blankets of wild flowers. There are rocky coves and long sandy beaches - great for surfing - as well as little fishing harbours and seaside towns to explore. There is one of the largest sand dune systems in Europe at Braunton and Northam Burrows. The South West Coast path is easily accessible and around 80 miles of it can be reached whilst holidaying with us. Inland the scenery is green and verdant with farm fields and flower-filled hedgerows around small hamlets and villages with ancient churches and friendly village inns. At night the sky is filled with stars as the area has almost no light pollution (there is even an observatory in the village). For a truly peaceful, rural retreat you cannot beat it.
For families there are lots of outdoor activities such as wind surfing, kayaking, archery, zorbing, swimming and cycling on the Tarka Trail, all close by. There are also three quality adventure/animal parks: the Milky Way, the Big Sheep and Atlantis, all within 12 miles. And there is always our 6 acre meadow in which to let off steam!
The Holsworthy / Bradworthy area
Bradworthy's carnival takes place on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of August. There is an arts festival in the Barnstaple area in June and St Peters Fair in Holsworthy in July. Live music can be seen in various local pubs including the Bradworthy Inn once a month or so.
The Tamar Lakes are 3 miles away. The upper lake has many water sports available as well as a cycle/walking path right around it. Lower Tamar Lake is a nature reserve with pleasant walks and a bird hide.
The Eden Project with its huge glass biomes can be reached in just over an hour. Other nearer gardens include RHS Rosemoor, Docton Mill and Marwood Hill. There are two National Trust properties within easy reach, Arlington Court and Lanhydrock. Exmoor, Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor can all be reached within a 1 hour drive and are great for exploring for adults and children alike. Tintagel Castle and Okehampton Castle are also great places to visit. Okehampton Castle lies close to another off-road cycle path, the Granite Trail.
