About the home

Set in the heart of the old market town of Holmfirth, famous for the home of the popular TV series 'last of the summer wine.' The house is only a 5 minute walk to the town centre, set in the beautiful Holme Valley, the house has commanding views over the surrounding countryside, an ideal base for walking and cycling without having to drive anywhere. The Peak District is only a 10 min drive away and Holmfirth itself has plenty of restaurants and pubs for dining out.

The house has private gardens to both front and rear and attractive decking with outdoor furniture for eating outside, there also is a games room with pool table, karaoke, and ps2 with games, bar , and 2 TV lounges. Outdoor heated hot tub spa which can accommodate 8 people ( extra charges apply)

There is plenty to keep children entertained in the area also, Cannon Hall animal park, the National Coal Mining Museum, The Zone ( huge play centre) Metrodome indoor water theme park. plus excellent cycling paths and easy walks all within easy reach of the house.

Note: the house can accommodate 10 people, the 10th person in the tower room (single bedroom) above bedroom 5 (best views from the house). (WE DO HAVE 3 EXTRA BEDS, WHICH WE CAN PUT IN ANY OF THE ROOMS) so could sleep 13

The house is also ideal for families with teenagers as there is a separate TV lounge and games room which gives everyone there own "space". The house is full of character and very unique in a wonderful setting.

There is a lawned small garden to the front and a 2 tier flagged patio to the side of the house, there is a larger lawned garden with rockery and private decking area with a garden table and 6 chairs which is nice in the Summer months. Private heated hot tub spa which can accommodate up to 8 people.

There is also another table and 4 chairs on the side patio area. There is ample parking on the large drive outside the house and cycles can be locked in the shed behind the property.

Well behaved pets are allowed, please inform the owners before booking.

Bookings and enquiries can be made either by telephone or email. A non-refundable deposit of £250 is required at the time of booking with the full balance becoming due 8 weeks before arrival. Please note - this is a non smoking property.

A refundable security deposit of £200 is payable upon arrival and is returned to you once the property has been checked ( within 5 days)

The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region

The house is set in the heart of the Holme Valley which has some of the most beautiful countryside in Yorkshire, it is also situated right on the very edge of the stunning peak district which is a short car journey away.

The famous picturesque Yorkshire Dales are also within easy reach by car. The historical city of York is approx 1 hours drive away, and there are many other famous and interesting places to visit making Holmfirth an ideal base to stay in.

The Holmfirth area

'Oaklands' is only a 5 min walk from the busy market town of Holmfirth where you will find plenty of shops, restaurants to suit all tastes. Fans of the TV show 'last of the summer wine' can go on guided tours and bus tours around the areas where the filming takes place. The popular 'Compos' restaurant is a 1 minute walk away.

The countryside in the area is stunning and you can literally walk out of the house and be walking or cycling on picturesque paths in minutes, we have detailed information in the house on these treks and walks for your use. The village is right on the edge of the peak district and the pretty town of Glossop is only 20 mins away by car. There are also plenty of wonderful walks around numerous reservoirs within walking distance to the house.

There are plenty of interesting places to visit for both young and old alike with breathtaking scenery wherever you venture.

Holmfirth can be reached easily enough by car from the South and North via the M1 motorway (approx 30 mins) or from the West on the M60/M62 and M57 Motorways, from the East on the M62/M1.

“Lovely House and Lovely setting!” We were a group of 10 - 2 families with young adult 'kids'! We stayed for a long weekend in January. The house itself was really lovely, the kitchen was stunning and very well equipped. The kids enjoyed the hot tub on a cold January night! The area too is stunning. We particularly enjoyed our visit to Holmfirth Vineyards and our walk around Digley Reservoir. The rest of the time we stayed in - eating, drinking, having fun in the games room and generally enjoying each others company in fab surroundings!

“We enjoyed a very happy holiday in what was an ideal family house catering for all ages.” This was our first stay in Holmfirth and we weren't quite prepared for the steep hills! The house was an excellent family house of a good standard, interesting in layout in that it enabled each part of the extended family to have their own section, useful when there were 4 children (age range 7-18months!) and the children were well catered for with a games room and trampoline. There were lots of steps as the house is set on a hillside. It is an excellent centre - Huddersfield and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park were highlights - and the countryside and villages around are well worth a visit. Holmfirth itself has lots to offer beside the 'Summer Wine' attractions. We had 2 dogs but it was quite difficult to find walks for them nearby - we would have liked some information about this. However, we all enjoyed a happy, comfortable stay at Oaklands.

“Outstanding” I went with family and friends to oaklands this year from end july for a week.when we drove up to the property it was just outstanding the size of it the look'just brilliant .The house its self everything you could ask for and more.very spacious ' plenty of utensils'rooms fantastic everything about the property is brilliant.had great weather when we were there so enjoyed being in the garden kids loved the house trampoline etc.so peacful apart from when we were singing on the karoke lol games room just fab.holmfirth itself beautiful place lovely little shops restaurants bars etc and very friendly.we loved it so much going back next year been abroad but have to say one of the best holidays we had.anyone considering oaklands whether family or friends you will not be dissapointed ' book it you will love it to the property and holmfirth itself just fantastic and the owners look after it so well you will fall in love with it' all I can say is if your thinking of booking oaklands go for it you will just have the best time

“Fantastic House” Great house, lovely interior and best of all the fantastic family dining kitchen that we spent most of the weekend in!! Could maybe do with better outdoor space but we all loved it and would go back.

“relaxing,yet loads to do!picture box town,wonderfull house!!” wonderfull house with everything and more,the owner is lovely and very helpfull.Very spacious and comfortable living area and the kitchen is a gem for the family to mingle and plan the days ahead.The town is very pretty and as you would expect because of the hit series last of the summer wine,only thing i was not keen was the hills,but thats yorkshire for you.Great time we all had thank you.
