The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The costal area of Fethiye enjoys a warm sunny climate with temperatures ranging from 35 degrees in high summer to 20 degrees early and late season. The area is famous for its Lycian rock tombs with its 4th century works of art still remaining. These tombs are carved out from natural rocks, which have become the symbol of the district. The Telmessos amphitheatre is another important landmark in Fethiye. SAKLIKENT ( hidden city ): is a unique natural wonder hiding within an 18km magnificent canyon, where the waters are cooling on hot summer days. TLOS: is one of the six lagest cities of the Lycian Federation dating back 2000 B.C. and is famous for its carvings and rock tombs. GOCEK: is a small charming fishing town and has recently become one of the most important centres for yacht tourism. Besides its natural harbour it boasts numerous islands and bays within pine forest clad hills.
Hisaronu / Ovacik area
Oludeniz beach ( blue lagoon ) is described as ' The Eden bestowed by God to the world' , which has a 3km long beach. One can appreciate fully the beauty of swimming in a colour harmony of light and dark blue. Paragliders swoop down from the sky like birds from a bygone era. HISARONU - OVACIK are two typical Turkish villages which have recently become shopping, eating and drinking destinations offering international and Turkish cuisine. KAYA KOY: a ghost town of deserted houses set in the pine forests not far from Hisaronu. Kaya was a settlement region of both Greek and Turkisk nationalities in the 14th Century. FETHIYE: a town of old and new with winding streets leading to bazaars, shops and many eating places. Stroll along the promenade late evening and enjoy Fethiye in all its glory. The Tuesday market is a must. Book a boat trip from the quay, where you will find numerous trips including the 12 islands. For the more adventurous try paragliding, microlighting, quad bikes, jeep safari or scuba diving. All these can be booked from the local town of Hisaronu for a reasonable price.
