The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Right through from May to October the weather is fantastic with temperatures ranging from about 20 - 45 degrees depending on the time of your visit. Rain during these months is virtually unheard of! It is a picturesque location surrounded by mountains with something to do to suit everyone!
Local historic places of interest which are only a short journey away include:
- Kayakoy Once a thriving Greek village, this town of over one thousand houses, two churches, and two schools, was completely deserted in the early 1900's when the Greek inhabitants living there, along with more than a million other Greeks living throughout Turkey were sent back to Greece following the Greek war of independence. Since then, the village of Kayakoy, which had been continually inhabited since at least the 13th century, has stood empty and crumbling, with only the breeze from the mountains and mist from the sea blowing through it's empty houses and streets.
- Saklikent Gorge Discovered in the 80s by villagers Saklikent Gorge is the second-largest (20 km-long) gorge in Europe, the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey. Saklikent Gorge ''Hidden Valley'' is steep and narrow, it is also so deep that the sun doesn’t even penetrate the water, leaving it icy cold in the summer months. The gorge was formed by the sliding of the base plates and the erosion of the water leaving behind the beautiful mystic and fascinating water sculptured limestone canyon walls. Leaving from Saklikent village you can walk into the gorge over the natural style bridge and into the canyon wading through the water, under the small waterfalls and even have a mud bath along the way. For the more adventurous a hike further upstream will get the hearts racing, but don’t be certain of finding the end of the gorge. Within the gorge tucked into the canyon walls locals have set up small restaurants with seating areas on wooden platforms suspended just above the rushing waters, these are great places to rest with a drink under the shady trees.
Hisaronu / Ovacik area
Located in the village of Ovacik. Natura is in a tranquil setting at the foot of the Balbag mountainin yet within walking distance of the well known Hisaronu, a buzzing town centre offering a fantastic range of things to do during the day as well as a brilliant nightlife with most of the lively bars and clubs being open until the early hours.
Just a short bus/car journey away (approx 10 mins) is Oludeniz and the world famous Blue Lagoon. Again Oludeniz has a fantastic range of restaraunts and a buzzing night life. The daytime activities here have something to suit everyone from relaxing on the world famous beaches to watersports, boat trips and for the really brave you could try parragliding!
Some of the other local activities/facilities include:
- Car hire - Wide range of shops - Wide range of restaraunts (traditional Turkish kebabs, Italian, Mexican, Indian, Chineese, English) - Fun fair (throuought the season) - Go-carts - Newly built Water park - Horse Riding - Trips to nearby places of interest - Island boat cruises - Jeep Safari - Fishing trips - Regular Bus services to all local areas (Oludeniz, Fethyie, Ovacik & Hisaronu)
