The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
FETHIYE AREA The Fethiye region has many interesting places to visit including the fascinating, abandoned ‘ghost town’ of Kayaköy, the stunning gorge of Saklikent and of course, the famous beach and blue lagoon of Olu Deniz, just the other side of the hill, which is easily reached by dolmus. The Fethiye area in general, is blessed with a rugged and beautiful landscape. Ovacik and Hisaronu boast a fantastic location as you can paraglide in Olu Deniz one day, canoe down the Xanthos River to Patara the next, paintball in the pine forests of Kayaköy and still take an overnight trip to the classical ruins of Ephesus.
The area offers so much as if you just want to sunathe on the beach or by the pool and enjoy the relaxation then the opportunity is there, however there is so much to explore in the local areas you won't know what to do first.
Hisaronu / Ovacik area
OVACIK Just above Olu Deniz amongst the pines on the lower slopes of Mount Babadag, the village of Ovacik straddles the mountain road between Fethiye and Olu Deniz. It’s convenient situation, clear air and quiet country trails make it an ideal base for enjoying all the diverse aspects of this captivating area. Ovacik is situated only 3 kms away from Olu Deniz Beach and is the neighbouring village to Hisaronu. Ovacik village is spread out in a big valley just below Babadag Mountain. There isn’t a resort centre as such - but the apartment is situated within walking distance to the main road and Hisaronu village centre. Ovacik is a good alternative to Hisaronu village - if you are looking for a more private & relaxing holiday. HISARONU Situated on a high plateau, 3km from the coast and surrounded by stunning mountains, the once sleepy village of Hisaronu has now been created into a lively village. The village is full of bars, restaurants and shops and a weekly market. This is certainly the place to haggle for any imitation designer gear. The nearest beaches are the famous lagoon of Olu Deniz or the beach of Belcekiz. A dolmus leaves every five or ten minutes. The slightly cooler mountain air is quite a relief after a day in the sun. OLU DENIZ The lagoon at Olu Deniz, situated on Turkey’s south-west coast, with its pristine white beaches and amazingly blue waters is one of the finest beaches in the world. Known as "the Turquoise Coast", it’s the ideal holiday destination. Be it eating, drinking, diving, paragliding or simply walking and sunbathing lazily on the beach, Olu Deniz has it all! FETHIYE is a traditional market town, it nestles in a natural harbour protected by the small islands off the shore - Sovalye Adasi is the closest with a further eleven islands in the outer bay. The harbour is the ideal place to stroll along the seafront promenade which bustles with fishing boats, traditional wooden gulets and international yachts, whilst the town exudes charm, with some excellent restaurants and a quaint paspatur with many turkish wares and restaurants. Fethiye is a lively port and market town where Turkish life and tourism exist side by side. By night Fethiye is overlooked by the floodlit tomb of Amyntas, which dates from 350BC, a Doric temple facade carved in the rock face. As dusk falls, the many cafes, lively bars and shops situated in the maze of narrow streets and alleys come to life. Market Place Located at the centre of the town, the market place is a fascinating sight where al kinds of fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit, fish, meat and dairy products, as well as local handicrafts, are offered for sale. Paspatur This small square is named after the cold water spring called Paspatur which flows into the pool here. Its history dates back to many years. At present the Paspatur has grown and expanded, with restaurants overshadowed by vine and ivy covered café bars. There are shops exhibiting touristic items and souvenirs such as leather outfits, bags and accessories, gold and silver ornaments and jewellery, carpets and rugs. In addition to buildings which are outstanding samples of typical Greek architecture, the Old Mosque and the Historical Turkish Bath are located here. Fethiye Market The huge "Tuesday Market" in Fethiye is where locals gather to sell their wares - the perfect place to hunt for bargains, try your bartering skills and stock up on holiday souvenirs.
