The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The Turquoise Coast is on the south-west of Turkey. With the Mediterranean Sea lapping the shores it is lovely and warm and will still keep you cool with out giving you a shock. It is surrounded by pine forests and numerous well known ruins all around the area. Everywhere you look there is stunning scenery and beautiful landscapes.

Oludeniz is one of Turkey's most acclaimed beach resorts; it is probably the most photographed resort and over the years has almost certainly featured in more holiday brochure covers than anywhere else in the world!
The vivid turquoise blue seas of the lagoon and bay rest beneath Babadag mountain, where people travel from all over the world to paraglide from its summit. But you don’t have to be an expert, there are many companies that will take you up and let you paraglide with professionals who will ensure you have the best possible experience.

There is also a whole range of water sports that you can participate in. There are many boat trips to go on, taking you to some of the stunning islands that scatter the coast.
The lagoon at Oludeniz is protected, and is not allowed to be sailed in by any type of boat, except the pedal boats, that can be hired in the lagoon. There is a small charge to get into the lagoon, but it is well worth it. There are shallow waters for children, and deeper waters for adults, there are also small platforms that you can swim out to and sunbathe on. There are sun beds on the beach, at a small cost, and there is a restaurant where you can get a range of Turkish and English food.

Fethiye is a traditional Turkish town set below pine-clad mountains and overlooks the harbour with its many boats witch you can hire to have your own private boat trip or a group outing. The town also boasts many restaurants, bars and shops where you can purchase beautiful jewellery leather clothing and other goods. There are also numerous Turkish baths where you can go to be pampered.
There is also a ski resort about an hours drive away, for winter holidays.

Hisaronu / Ovacik area

The charming hill town of Hisaronu, a short distance inland from Turkey's Mediterranean coast, has boomed into a popular holiday resort bristling with hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and tour operators, ideally situated for those intent on exploring the region and enjoying an active holiday. Hisaronu is centrally located on the 'Turquoise Coast', within a short 'dolmus' (local bus ) ride from the busy centre of Fethiye, the beautiful seaside resort of Oludeniz with its blue lagoon and crescent beach, and numerous sites of interest. The town itself is a bit of a hodge-podge of buildings, but the surrounding area offers a ruggedly beautiful landscape, ideal for walkers, and a coast filled with secluded bays and coves accessed through winding forest paths. Being set at high altitude the town also has the advantage of being cooler and less humid than the coast, a pleasant refuge to retreat to after a day in the summer sun.

The main street of Hisaronu is well supplied with a variety of stores selling everything holidaymakers look for in Turkey, from fake designer-wear to carpets and leather goods. Haggling is expected and part of the shopping experience.

Hisaronu has a variety of restaurants to cater for the tastes of international tourists, from traditional English to sizzling pizzas and spicy Mexican. Most are along the main street, including favourites like the Shine Indian Restaurant and the Dragonara Chinese restaurant. For traditional Turkish delights the Olive Tree is hard to beat.

The nightlife of Hisaronu is legendary on the 'Turquoise Coast', its clubs and pubs rocking until the early hours during the summer season. Holidaymakers will find everything from Turkish theme nights to British soccer, 60s discos or full-on nightclubs.

There is no need to spend all day lying on the beautiful Oludeniz beach, or beside the hotel pool (unless this is the option you prefer). Hisaronu is packed with opportunities to get out and about. Most popular activities are paragliding from Babadag Mountain to land on the beach; canoeing down the Xanthos river to Patara; pitching paintballs in the pine forests; visiting the bazaar in nearby Fethiye; taking a glass-bottom boat trip; taking a day trip to the Greek island of Rhodes; and an excursion to the 'ghost town' of Kayakoy.
