The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The Turquoise Coast and Lycia region of Turkey is home to some of its most well known resorts. Oludeniz is famed for its blue lagoon, and the whole of the coastline is spectacular. For those who like nightlife and plenty to do, Fethiye and Bodrum are great for combining ancient sights and wonders with modern facilities. Marmaris is a more European style resort, but still boasts a lovely old town quarter.
Hisaronu / Ovacik area
Oludeniz One of Turkey's most acclaimed beach resorts, the beautiful turquoise waters of Oludeniz bay and lagoon bask beneath the Babadag Mountain. From its summit you can try your hand at paragliding, with a graceful (or not so graceful) landing on the promenade below. The lovely Oludeniz lagoon is a conservation area and there is a small but very worthwhile charge for entry to the lagoon beach where the shallow waters are ideal for children. Between the shimmering Mediterranean and the glorious Belcekiz beach a lush green strip of grass and leafy trees provide welcome shade alongside a splendid collection of restaurants and beachside restaurants serving up a great cocktail of chilled drinks and chilled sounds. Distance from airport approximately 75 kilometres.
Kalkan A peaceful, picturesque village 56 kilometres east of Fethiye, Kalkan sits snugly at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, its pretty bay guarded by formidable tree clad hills. Narrow, gently sloping streets are lined with little whitewashed houses, their original timber balconies hanging overhead, whilst in wonderfully colourful bazaars and stores you'll be invited to sip tea with traditional Turkish friendliness as you are tempted by intricately woven rugs and carpets. Kalkan offers an extraordinary choice of eateries featuring local and international flavours in the old town and beside the lovely tree lined harbour. A small but pretty pebble beach faces Kalkan Bay, whilst seven kilometres east is Kaputas beach with its dramatic cliffside backdrop. Distance from airport approximately 125 kilometres.
Hisaronu Hisaronu sits at the very fringe of a forest that sweeps majestically across the hillside to Fethiye. The nearby Greek ghost town of Kaya Koy presents an opportunity to delve into an extraordinary chapter of local history, whilst around Kaya village the country lanes are sprinkled with traditional Turkish farming communities and tiny villages with simple, rustic restaurants. By contrast, Hisaronu itself bustles with the happy atmosphere of a popular holiday resort, with a terrific selection of family bars and eateries where you may even discover belly dancing and karaoke side by side. Distance from airport approximately 75 kilometres.
